About this deal

If a child has completed Phase 1-5 phonics study by the end of Year 1, they should be able to accurately read all the words likely to be included in the assessment. This printable provides a comprehensive list of the first 100 sight words, which are high-frequency words commonly used in reading and writing. Our checklist of the 100 highest frequency words makes it easy to record young children's progress in reading and writing common words ahead of their end of year Phase 1 Assessment for the Letters and Sounds Scheme.

This can expand their vocabulary and encourage them with independent writing tasks, such as short stories, poems or reflective pieces. The four separate passages include sentences with the high frequency words from phase 2, phase 3, phase 4 and phase 5. Therefore, by learning about them thoroughly in English classes, children can improve their spoken communication skills and feel better understood when communicating ideas.

For more fun ways to teach children about high frequency words try our High Frequency Words Snakes and Ladders Board Game. Another fun way to help your child to learn these high frequency words is to choose a handful of the words and encourage them to make a silly sentence which contains as many of them as possible!

Beginning in Reception, children will be given around 45 high frequency words to learn over the course of the year to recognise and read. Our lovely resource creation team are not currently able to adapt this full pack into an editable MS Word document, but if there is a specific activity or change that you were hoping to see please do let me know.

Our lovely resource creation team have amended the resource and the new version is now available to download. The terms in the list are picked based on how frequently they appear in different literature, with the more frequently used words ranking higher.

I would want to add in extra columns with "R" and "W" at the top so that the same sheet can be used for each child throughout the year but a different date be written in the "R" and "W" box. High-frequency words are words that are used most commonly and frequently used in the English language, for example, 'and', 'the', 'as', and 'it'. Printablee is a unique fusion of gifted graphic designers, prolific authors and passionate teachers to produce outstanding visual printable content that adds value to your personal or professional projects. Designed to engage young minds, this printable is suitable for children in preschool through first grade, making it an essential tool in building a strong foundation in reading and language development. While both sets serve the same objective of teaching children common words, they differ in their origins, word selection, and usage.
