Another sip and swish shows this to be perhaps just a touch overoaked, but it’s saved by lovely notes of maraschino cherry and Angostura bitters. Its mellow balance — helped by the prominent caramel notes of its wheated mash bill — doesn’t overpower meaty flavors. The finish trails long with sweetness that lingers in warmth; aromas and flavours collaborate to offer a complex indulgence. It's made up of whiskeys from Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky, with ages ranging from 4 to 16 years old.

Upfront I’m greeted with a heavy dose of rye spice immediately followed by honey, peaches, and subtle hints of brown sugar and light oak. There is just too much a strong contradiction in flavor with the deep deep bitter oak mixed with a sweet floral overtone.There is a lot going on with this barrel and the Brent Elliot (Master Distiller) pick knocked it out of the park. Each of our limited edition bourbons is non-chill filtered to capture its straight-from-the-barrel flavor. Either I wasn't in a high proof mood that night, or OESK is just that close that I had to flip a coin, because one does not simply go from zero to hero for no reason! Four Roses uses 2 different mashbills and 5 different yeast strains to create 10 unique bourbon recipes. Both of these bourbons provide exceptional flavour profiles that can be appreciated by any level of connoisseur!

Palate: On first sip I’m impressed by orange creamsicle, hefty boozy amaretto and a ball of baking spices you might drop into a batch of Swedish Glögg.This iconic American whisky brand has won countless hearts with its supreme quality and unmistakable characteristics; a perfect recommendation for any connoisseur looking for premium whisky.

The proof swings back in strong on the 2nd sip as cherry hots sizzle and pop on the way down to my stomach.

Our tester found that the 12-year is a little rough around the edges neat — it is meant to be an affordable bourbon, after all — but dropping in an ice cube really opens up its sweet wheat side. Just looking through my collection of Private Selection bottles, it’s common to find Tier 6 bottles ending up over 120 proof while Tier 1 bottles can be as low as 103 proof. Chewing” makes Four Roses even sweeter with honey, caramel, cocoa, baked apples spritzed with orange, vanilla, and a dash of toasted grains.I can’t say that the heat is powerful, but it emits this doughy note that I don’t love, but also don’t hate.
