The tube "can" be bent without the spring if you are willing to risk kinking and hence ruining the replacement fuel line section. There is a bump in the tubing that keeps the nut from sliding off, which is good, but it also prevented me from making bends near the fittings.Working under the car and without an olive cutter/puller, I had to cut an extra inch or so off the fuel pipe to free the olive and the broken end of the nut so the replacement could be fitted. All rust out in time and up here in Northern Michigan where they salt the roads during the winter, these rust out quickly.
