It was the writing I’ve always loved from Kennedy with an exciting new setting and cast of characters. I read in other reviews that people didn't like the cheating trope - it was actually the first time ever that a main character was cheating in a young adult novel I've read. Still, I do enjoy your writing and I liked Mackenzie and even Cooper (when he wasn’t being an ass to someone who had done him no harm) so I kept going. One of the things that makes Elle Kennedy’s NA romances so much fun is the cast of characters she gives each book/series. She had agreed to attend after pressure from her family who had resisted her having a gap year after high school. I may not have always liked him, but I enjoyed reading his POV even before he became someone to love.When you have good girl syndrome, you unconsciously employ tactics that make it easier to avoid shame and rejection. Despite his disdain for the trust-fund kids he sees coming and going from his town, Cooper soon realizes Mac isn't just another rich clone and falls for her. While this story did have some plot elements that aren't always my favorite, I was completely won over by all the swoons this story had to offer. I moonlight here on the weekends to save up some extra dough so I can stop working for other people and start being my own boss. This may have been something the author overlooked as she is Canadian (the drinking age is 19 in Ontario).

The good girl complex can take an emotional toll, making you feel anxious, lost, and drained, and feeling emotionally burdened in a relationship is never a good sign.He gets into an altercation with a “clone” (the derogatory name the locals give to the wealthy students and summer visitors who have a lot of history of treating the locals very poorly) who gropes waitress and friend, Steph. I liked Cooper a lot but think that Mackenzie needed a bit more character development to make the extreme contradictions in what we’re told about her and what we actually see her do make sense.
To his credit, Cooper very quickly falls for Mackenzie and abandons the plan but it is nonetheless the central conflict of the book so I spent the last bit kind of peering through my fingers as I read, waiting for it all to go horribly wrong. He works multiple jobs trying to be a success but when one of those is compromised by an entitled “clone” Cooper sets out for revenge. Elle Kennedy's ability to build a college town universe that is delicious, complicated and drama-filled, is unparalleled. They tend to compare themselves to others who have been successful and give themselves a hard time when unable to achieve what others have. I accidentally read the second book (about the twin brother and his ex) before this one and liked it better - but not very much. I have some really old draft posts and might send those out and see about getting back into the swing of everything again. Being a nice girl revolves around the idea that if you want to be loved and accepted, you have to be nice and kind to everyone.
