About this deal

The term ‘Navy proof’ was first used in the early nineties - nineteen nineties - by an astute advertising department for a popular gin brand. A drop of water helps bring out some of the more subtle complexities with banana and pineapple emerging after a slight dilution. It’s less intense, even though it is based on the same blend, with slightly less alcohol by volume than the original strength, Gunpowder Proof expression. However, it was not until 1816 that a legal standard based on specific density was defined in England. Some commentators claim that high strength spirts were required for naval operations due to their storage in close proximity to the ships gunpowder supplies.
