About this deal

Now of course I want to give this book a five stars, however, there were a couple things that led me to lowering it one star (not to say that this book wasn’t amazing because it is and I highly recommend you all pick it up! I respect what the other tried here, with plotlines about mental health, residency, Indian families, therapy, and other ideas, but it seems too overstuffed for a small novel. Beth is overjoyed when her mother shows up and immediately invites her into her life, even staying with her at her house.

Somewhere around 50% mark we all thought we figured out who the killer was, but I am glad to say we were wrong. Even though the plot of her books are always fast paced, the dialogue is stilted and when not invested in the characters it is very hard to really enjoy the story. Soon Beth is introducing her mother to her friends and colleagues and they are all incredibly happy for her and accepting of Alice.Filled with invaluable tools, quick-fire exercises, case studies and additional worksheets, Happy Families has everything you need to protect and support your child's mental health. Dr Beth Mosley MBE is one of the UK’s most experienced and respected consultant clinical psychologists, and she works with children, young people and their families every day.

The Happy Family: The gripping new psychological crime

I found much of the book predictable but there were a few unexpected twists and gaslighting occuring which I really appreciated. I wish I could say that The Happy Family, the latest novel by jackie Kabler, ticked some of those boxes. Eldest daughter Catherine and her husband, leave in a huff, followed closely behind by beleaguered middle child, Dan and his wife, Lisa. When you have that, he adds, the lows feel more manageable, because you can put them into perspective — and the highs are more memorable. My favourite part was the show of how a thing as murder can shake and change relationships that seemed strong before. During Alice's stay weird occurrences start to happen to Beth and its down to both her and the reader to decided if the arrival of Alice is just too much of a coincidence.

Publication date 4th June 2021, thank you netgalley harper Collins publishers and Jackie Kabler for the digital advanced copy of the happy family. A slightly predictable psychological thriller that is still a pager turner as I was intrigued to see how far the author would push the main protagonist. While Beth did some horrible things as a teen, you connect with her because of what she’s going through. With her life crumbling around her, Beth looks in danger of losing everything and everyone close to her until someone totally unexpected comes to her rescue – a fabulous twist I admittedly guessed early on. What a Happy Family is a vivid portrait of family life and I was captivated by the stories of the Joshi clan from the very first page.
