About this deal

A single shot lasting a hair-raising six minutes stays locked on Cohle as he tries to escape from an undercover job gone desperately wrong. The majority of the BBC show, which first aired in 2014, was filmed in Calder Valley which encompasses picturesque and charming towns such as Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Sowerby Bridge. While you might be expecting a tiresome victim-of-the-week format, the show, which aired in the UK on Universal, plays out as a twisty mystery drama instead. Both are now focusing on other things – aware, perhaps, that these eight episodes will prove impossible to top. Vicky Frost of The Guardian wrote: "To get hung up on the violence of this BBC1 kidnap drama misses the point.

There are SIX episodes in Happy Valley's third and final series, airing on Sunday nights at 9pm on BBC One for the next few weeks. Here, she adds depth to her tale with a backstory about the impact of drugs on the fringes of a big city, and a touching look at how families react to life-changing events.Billed as a "contemporary prequel" to Psycho, it elects to tell the origin story of Norman Bates in the modern day. The DVD includes two discs, featuring 351 minutes' worth of footage, and has an age certificate of 15. However, some reviewers have criticised the show for its graphic content, especially in episode three and episode four, while others have noted the ubiquitous typecasting of male characters as either weak or criminals. Admittedly, Bates Motel isn't quirky or surreal, but the town is visually comparable and – in similar fashion to the cult 90s favourite – hides a malevolent underbelly. When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, it sparks a chain of events that leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce [James Norton].

Shetland was on its last legs – Ashley Jensen might have saved it 01 November, 2023 Don’t underestimate Shetland – this Scottish drama is better than Scandi noir 01 November, 2023 If Peggy and Georges from MAFS UK 2023 are still together 01 November, 2023 Who’s in the cast of Happy Valley? When Cawood confronts Royce and they come to blows, each kick and headbutt feels wincingly real, with every close-up of Cawood's bloodshot and bruised face drawing a gasp. Just when it seems like Catherine is gaining control over her life, she discovers that Tommy, whom she holds responsible for her daughter's suicide, has been released from prison after serving time for other offences. She pleaded with her lover-cum-diazepam dealer, Faisal Bhatti (Amit Shah), to make good on a vague promise to set her up in a flat. The first series of Happy Valley not only introduced us to the eminently watchable Catherine Cawood, who is undoubtedly the glue that holds the show together, but it also had viewers hooked with it's twisty plot and shocking scenes including the brutal death of young police officer Kirsten McAskill at the hands of Tommy Lee Royce and a violent showdown between Catherine and Tommy, the man who raped and impregnated her daughter Becky, who committed suicide after giving birth to son Ryan. The Sally Wainwright drama, set within the Calder Valley, burst on to our screens back in 2014 and became an instant hit proving itself to be truly unmissable watching.

In the meantime, our outspoken heroine went ominously quiet around the house – giving Ryan and “weak, spineless” Clare the near-silent treatment. When Catherine finds out, she temporarily blocks contact with the three of them and presents Ryan with an ultimatum. She was rescued and reluctantly arrested by Catherine, who later revealed the queasy twist that Alison had been raped by her father, meaning that Daryl was her half-brother as well as her son. RadioTimes reported that filming had also taken place at a former Sowerby Bridge Police Station, and Park Wood Crematorium in Elland, a market town in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.Happy Valley is back for a third and final series and has already garnered much praise from viewers. The six-parts will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, where, incidentally, you can re-watch series one and two right now, in preparation. He might soon be up in court for another murder but Royce chillingly “forgave” the prison chaplain who had informed on him. Harrelson's Marty Hart is much more straight-down-the-line: a heavy-drinking cop with a brow that remains furrowed whether he's scratching around for answers, shaking off the last of a hangover or enduring many a long car journey with Cohle, listening to his theory that the world is "one ghetto – a giant gutter in outer space". While trying to prove her innocence, Catherine is tasked with investigating a human trafficking operation linked to the serial killings.
