About this deal

The adventures that were started in the first book, Nothing Ventured, will continue in the second book, Hidden in Plain Sight. As with the Clifton Chronicles, the Warwick novels tell the story of a man, a family, and an era of our times in the way only Jeffrey Archer can. That being said, I’ll definitely be reading on to find out what happens with the unfinished business. Hidden in Plain Sight is the second brilliant and captivating novel featuring William Warwick by the master storyteller and bestselling author of the Clifton Chronicles, Jeffrey Archer. This is the 11th book I have reviewed by Archer (and I read him long before Goodreads was around, so there were plenty more).

New York Times bestselling author Jeffrey Archer introduces William Warwick with the words: “This is not a detective story, this is a story about a detective.I enjoyed this mystery as it had a lot of police procedural in it and the characters were interesting and engaging.

William Warwick has been given a rare treat at work, a long overdue promotion to Detective Sergeant. We are still treated to updates on William’s personal life and it was lovely to see his relationship with Beth grow and to follow them on the next steps in their lives. On a personal note, Warwick and his fiancee, Beth, are eager to share their nuptials, planning a small ceremony that turns out to be anything but calm. He also has to deal with his previous enemy, Miles Faulkner and also meets his childhood friend Adrian Heath.Taking readers back to the glory days of the 1980s, this police procedural is sure to impress many, particularly those who have a great affinity for Archer's Clifton Chronicles. Usually, when a book I'm reading does this I can pick up the thread in a couple of sentences but it was a difficult concept with this storyline. I think this book could standalone and a reader would be satisfied without having read the first book, although it would obviously provide more background and context if the first had been read. But she makes no secret of the fact that she’s just as keen as we are to see her husband behind bars. This is another enjoyable entry in the William Warwick series although I’m not particularly a big fan of the “to be continued” nature of the ending.

William Warwick is determined to finally bring Miles Faulkner to justice for the crime he has committed in the art world, for which he escaped serving a prison sentence. We may never get a better chance to put Faulkner behind bars, and don’t let’s forget, however minor the offence, because of the judge’s suspended sentence, it would put him inside for at least four years. The narrative focuses on people—their actions, their emotions, their gut reactions, and their connections—both positive and negative—with the larger community. Plot Summary - William Warwick has been promoted to Detective Sergeant, but his promotion means that he, along with the rest of his team, has been reassigned to the Drugs Squad. But if the painting turns out to be the original, Faulkner will have made a fool of us a second time, and in the most public of arenas.William and the rest of his squad have been tasked with finding a drug lord known only by his street moniker, Viper. William rummaged around in the hamper until he came across a bottle of olive oil from Umbria that he knew Beth would appreciate.
