About this deal

Many more affordable planar magnetic headphones don’t sound as good, or they’re much heavier than this set. It would rarely jumble itself up and had a wide range of motion to it while staying intact; fluid is the best way to describe it. The Sundara Closed Back treble response is all there and what I noticed right away is the ability to quell a bright recording without blurring or veiling any of the high-frequency characteristics. May be it's my head's shape or some other effect, changing to dekoni pads changed how sundara sound with noticeable increase in bass and reduction in brightness.

One phrase I would use to describe HIFIMAN would be “PLUS ULTRA” which is a Latinmotto for having gone further and beyond. This is what the Sundara will look like on your head if you’re outrageously overdue for a haircut like me. Only drawback is, as Amir noted, the lack of swivel but you can swap headbands to fix this if you really want to. Most people looking for a more accessible way into high-end headphones will enjoy the Sundara—we didn’t have to think long about giving it our Editors Choice award. As such, while it’s a pretty good all-rounder, it performs excellently with rock tracks or genres adjacent to that… which just so happens to be what I mainly listen to.If you’d rather spread the cost over 36 months, you can set up a loan repayment plan when the payment-free period comes to an end at 19. Instead, the Sundara’s treble (at least, on my unit) is dominated by a relatively broad boost around 10kHz. The deep lows are articulate and full, but you need to look elsewhere if you want subwoofer-like performance. Here, the Sundara’s take in good air and dynamics and they found the necessary space for the guitars, rhythm section, and added horns in this great recording. The backs of the HiFiMan Sundara are protected by a woven metal grille and some foam, which lets in outside noise as all other open-backed headphones do.

In fact, I found very little difference between the HE400i and Sundara with regard to sideways clamping force. Note: The measurements you are about to see are preformed using standardized GRAS 45CA headphone measurement fixture. Above all else, the midbass in those frequencies excels in note clarity and distinction just don’t expect any low-end rumble. They also claim the new design will produce a much more refined sound signature with far greater frequency extension and quicker transient response than the HE400 series.Personally, I find the Beyerdynamics to be more comfortable over the long haul, and have a more durable design. While I like the Sundara’s treble as it continues the lively, energetic sound of the mids, there is a brittleness the timbre that’s noticeable on the hats and cymbals. If you’re hoping the HiFiMan Sundara will block out your surroundings, open-back headphones don’t really do that.
