The diary, embellished with drawings of his distillery, clearly showed it had been located in the stable buildings to the back of the house, buildings which still existed, albeit in a somewhat dilapidated state.

This is a good example of a London Dry Gin, but we feel it requires more adjustment to bring out some depth of flavour.

A clean distinctive lavender aroma is enhanced with herbs and mineral notes for an appealing freshness – this is certainly oceanic on the nose. These perfectly pink VIE gins come together to make two fabulously fruity gin flavours in one delectable duo. A full strength (42% abv) distilled gin made using only natural, real fruit flavours and colourings, this gin is sugar-free so you only receive the very best orange taste. At Hooting Owl Distillery we distil 6 distinctive Gins that represent not only the history of our location at Barmby Moor House, but also our family.

There are different methods for producing gin’s, we feel that the best way to produce London Dry Gin’s is via the maceration and single shot distilling method, whereby we steep our botanical recipe in a neutral grain spirit for between 12 and 18 hours this extracts the botanical oils from our recipe we then rectify the spirit removing the heads and the tails and only bottling the pure flavour filled heart of our spirit. We’ve paired our VIE Pink Grapefruit and Pineapple Gin with our VIE Mango and Passionfruit Gin to create this delectable duo set. It’s bursting with fresh lemon flavour and a citrus aroma, which creates a delightful bitter-sweetness on the palate that’s reminiscent of lemon sherbet sweets. The flavours effortlessly blend with juniper and citrus during our precise distillation process to create a smooth, sweet, floral, flavour-packed ‘traveling’ gin. We'll start seeing some liquids coming out the still, we'll let those liquids come out and at Hooting Owl, we wait until we get to 80 degrees centigrade.We recommend a high-quality, plain tonic as we believe the flavour should come from the gin rather than the tonic. Think smashed strawberries with sweet crumbly meringue and creamy flavours melting into a traditional juniper forward London Dry Gin! The story goes that as Dom and Sarah were renovating the house they stumbled across a concealed floor safe and inside they found a single bottle of Sir Owlfred’s Hooting Owl Signature Gin and an old book containing many of his secret recipes. Both 70cl bottles in this tasty duo have our premium Hooting Owl gin recipe at the heart, but with added oomph!

Our recipe is an old fashioned Juniper leading style, with additions of Coriander Seed and Liquorice Root twined with Angelica Root. Our small batch distilled gin contains 14 botanicals, Juniper Led, with hints of citrus from Red Grapefruit and Bitter orange, exotic spice from cubebs and grains of paradise interwoven with Borage and Lavender from the English countryside. We’ve paired our VIE Parma Violet Gin with our VIE Spiced Blood Orange Gin, so all moods are catered for. Hooting Owl Distillery, makers of Yorkshire gin, has submitted planning permission to City of York Council to relocate to the former Society Lounge and Bar site, a venue which has lain empty since the venue closed for three years during lockdown. The rhubarb and vanilla gin was recommended to me by a work colleague and I purchased it for my mother's birthday. At our Yorkshire distillery we then add a secret recipe of botanicals, steep, redistill and barrel age the rum to produce this unique, smooth, artisan dark rum. A very well-crafted gin with juniper and citrus-forward on the nose and a strong cardamom note, creating a nicely rounded aromatic profile. With Hooting Owl Distillery’s unique small batch gin as the base, the sweetness of ripe mango and sharper notes of passionfruit blend perfectly to create this juicy, fruit flavoured gin.
