This is a cute book that will have your little ones laughing, highly recommended for small toddlers. I found some of the humour in this forced at times, but I can see it would appeal to young children. I was honestly quite impressed by her creativity, and I don't think she's bottomed-out yet, so I'd love to read something by her which is written with a more mature (but equally playful) aspect, to which she will no doubt respond tush-hey! For exapmle, after realising that a bum made out of a chrome car bumper would be nice to look at and useful (for the headlights), it would probably be too heavy to carry around every day.

I Need a New Bum’ (2018) – by Dawn McMillan, with illustrations by Ross Kinnaird – is a fun and silly story aimed squarely at its target audience demographic of largely bum/pooh fixated 2-6 year olds. He tries to brainstorm a variety of replacement butts until he realizes that his father also has a crack in HIS butt. I’m sure children would find some humor in this book with its presentation of different silly ideas for a “replacement butt,” yet it’s just not well done.

The story line is hilarious to begin with, yet it keeps on backing out new ideas each one as rib-tickling (or as warped) as the last. His imaginative quest recounted in rhyme takes him through a whole series of wildly spectacular but not entirely practical candidates, until he realises that this cracked-butt business may in fact be occurring at epidemic proportions – his Dad’s butt has a crack too!However, I'm not the target audience, so this might be funny enough for a kid to laugh all the way through. Deliveries to destinations outside Australia are made by DHL courier, and cannot be made to post office boxes. The author takes a crack at what may appear to be nothing more than bathroom humor, but in the end is a cute story of a little boy who is unashamedly cheeky in his pursuit to find a new rear and is unafraid to air his tale. He’s not sure whether he broke his bum whilst riding his bike or whizzing down the bannister, but one thing’s for sure – he needs a new one! Another plus: big brothers and sisters will gladly sit down for some quality story time with their younger siblings.
