As is the case with many other Invicta models, the luminescence utilised on the markers of the ‘1953’ has a slight green hue and it appears much fainter than I anticipated; probably lighter than the 6204 originally released with back in the day. Some folks out there couldn’t care less about the brand reputation of their watch, but I believe it’s worth learning about.

With the screw-back, you also get a strong 200m of water resistance, making this a true diver (as opposed to a dive-style) watch. However, I think you could probably find some comparable options that serve that purpose better from the likes of AliExpress. I wish they would put out more watches along these lines instead of the garish monstrosities they seem to prefer. It’s a stretch, but imagine if they used a bubbled sapphire crystal to emulate the acrylic on the original Rolex.The matte crown is a bit incongruous with the rest of the watch, but it’s hardly noticeable and easily disregarded.

I’ll let you decide whether this change suits your wrist or preferences, though it again breaks the retro immersion. The 1953 is a modest 40mm wide, 49mm tall, and 14mm thick with a lug size of 20mm, wearing very similar to newer Subs (and the Pro Diver, for that matter). However, from reading and watching lots of content about it, I had myself hyped up thinking this could be the best Invicta ever. Borrowing its aesthetics from one of the most iconic and timeless designs in watch history, it’s a capable 200m diver. In addition, I would have liked to see stronger lume, better finishing, and solid endlinks on the bracelet.

A rectangular gold-colored case with flame fusion crystal glass safeguards the Japanese quartz movement. You also get tons of micro-adjustment, which is a blessing to my wrist after having to deal with butterfly clasps that are either too loose or too tight. That’s particularly evident in dial design, where a triangle marker sits at a 12 O’clock position, and rectangular markers occupy the other three major hour markers.
