Elsewhere, the sparkling dancehall of "Need It" transcends with one uncomplicated loop, a pretty, popcorn synth and a show-stealing topline from Masego. Then we have the dons SiR and Mick Jenkins going back-to-back: SiR on "Go DJ", a house party anthem with an extremely silly but terribly infectious hook ("The blunt still burnin', the clock still turnin', The waist keep windin' while her ass keep twerkin'. But it’s hard to hear what Uncle Snoop on “Eye” or Big Sean on “Master P” add beyond bankable names; I have to imagine “Big Sean” [ft. Aminé’s oral (sex) fixation gets old fast, and a few lines are groan-worthy enough to distract from the fun (“Just popped an X bitch I feel like I’m Malcolm,” he raps on “Who He Iz”). In mixing and melody, Bubba is closer to house than anything else, and Kay tends to puts bass front and centre. A syncopated Afrobeat pulses beneath Pharrell’s vocals on standout 4EVA, while a pitched-up Aminé provides a counterpoint to Snoop Dogg’s verses on the synth-laden Eye.

But his production discography is evidence of his innate ability to adapt to other artists’ styles, whether it’s Kelela, Cadence Weapon, or Freddie Gibbs. continues that tradition, and new track "Bus Ride", which features acclaimed percussionist / producer Karriem Riggins as well as rising Toronto vocalist River Tiber, demonstrates that Kaytranada has stayed within his canon while demonstrating growth on the new album.
