About this deal

Big heads, frustrated not to get their ideal sound, who decided to open up a company and create their own products – you know the drill. The technology was readily used for headphones for years but the planar IEM as of now has become very popular among enthusiasts. The Letshuoer S12 Pro includes both silicone and foam eartips, which I tested extensively prior to writing this review.

When listening to vocals, both male and female voices were beautifully represented with natural and organic tones through this IEM.Tests were done with a Khadas Toneboard DAC -> Schiit Asgard 3 amp, E1DA 9038, Questyle M15, Colorfly CDA M1, Tempotec Sonata HD Pro (BHD firmware mod), smartphone, and Sony NW A-55 DAP (Walkman One mod) using FLAC and WAV files. The original S12 differs from the S12 Pros, in that the originals seem to have a touch more mid-bass impact, less treble and are slightly more closed in. It is well contrasted and dynamic, impactful and weighty but it can sound a little hollow and a touch dry. This is yet another aspect where cable experimentation will help out for bass using a good copper based cable. Due to our different ear anatomies, what works for someone may not work for another, when it comes to eartips.

It comes with the same ergonomic monitor shell, but this time in a nice looking “Space Blue” color and features the same 14. The S12 Pro may be a tinge bright for treble-sensitive folk, and vocal and midrange lovers might need to consider alternatives due to a depression in the lower mids. There are a few quirks here and there though, like the gem-like 2-pin socket, contrasting with the rounded shape of the main chassis, or the silver-toned dirt-grill protection – located inside the nozzle. The S12 and S12 Pro are twins with minor changes that are audible in the upper midrange and treble area. Sure, that’s something that we’ve already seen on FiiO or Shanling IEMs, but the S12 Pro feels even more ergonomic in that regard, thanks to the lack of lock system – I can never get FiiO’s one right on the first try.
