About this deal

Unfortunately, there are some areas that we are unable to deliver to including Northern Ireland, The Isle of Man, The Isle of Wight, Scottish Isles and The Channel Isles. Green compost adds minerals and organic matter to the mix, together with useful nutrients derived from recycled vegetation. Some are happy to be planted in straight compost, while others prefer their compost mixed with grit, sand or perlite to help with aeration and prevent their roots from becoming waterlogged.

Young plants need more to fuel rapid growth, and so a multipurpose compost can be a better choice when you prick out your seedlings. Multipurpose compost is your best bet for already established plants, although it can be just as beneficial for seed germination and small seedlings, too. It has been specially developed, with a high phosphate formula and 14 vital minerals for optimum root growth.

Luckily, gardeners in their droves are now opting for peat-free alternatives, of which there are many, usually made from a combination of ingredients such as coir (from coconut husks), wood fibres and composted tree bark. Peat is also sourced from peat bogs in the UK and Ireland: these are important habitats for local flora and fauna and are becoming depleted to a critical level. Levington Advance Solutions stands as the quintessential custom mix program to propel your horticultural pursuits. The only issue we found is that it can dry into rather a hard crust, but as long as you’re watering regularly it shouldn’t harm a seed’s chances. It’s totally organic, peat-free, and made from coconut coir, which makes it pet- and child-friendly, but the best part is that 20 litres of compost arrives at your doorstep in a package measuring just 18 x 18 x 8cm.

To rehydrate the whole pack of compost, you simply cut open at the top of the bag, add seven litres of lukewarm water and wait for five minutes until the compost has sufficiently absorbed all the water. Our team of ICL technical advisors will guide you toward the top-tier, environmentally conscious peat-reduced, and peat-free growing media. These high end technical products are coupled with unrivalled technical excellence, provided by ICL’s experienced and qualified team of horticultural experts. Organic compost only contains plant matter and animal products – which could be animal manure, fish blood or bone – while non-organic compost may also include manufactured materials such as perlite, vermiculite or rockwool to aid with drainage and water absorption. ICL has (under various guises) supplied growing media to the UK horticulture market for over 50 years. You will need to water carefully as the top of the compost can often look dry or wet, but the rest of the pot could be wet or dry.

Bags that are faded or are heavy have been hanging around, getting too hot in the sun or soaking up rain, which will damage the compost in the bag. The bacterium responsible for the potentially fatal Legionnaires’ disease has been found in some composts sold in the UK. If you’re growing plants in a small home or have limited storage space for your gardening paraphernalia, GreenBrokers has created the perfect solution with this dry compacted compost.Composts that are too fine are prone to water logging, while those that are too coarse tend to need more frequent watering. Some products may be delivered straight to your door from one of our suppliers and these products will be labelled within the product description. Unfortunately, peat also contains carbon, so when it’s spread on your garden it quickly converts into carbon dioxide, adding to global warming.

We offer peat free compost in a variety of flavours to suit every need, balanced fertilisers for your plants and lawn, safe-to-use plant disease, pest and weed control, and a range of lawncare products that’ll have you proud to host this summer’s barbecues. From compost to plant food, weed control to lawncare, take a look at our comprehensive range of products to keep your garden healthy and happy.Part fill the hole with a mixture of 50% soil and 50% Levington Multi Purpose Compost with added John Innes. Watch out for reformulated compost - manufacturers frequently change the mix of ingredients they use and the fertiliser, and this is speeding up as the ban on using peat comes ever closer. Its unique formulation with grit and phosphate provides the perfect combination for strong and healthy roots. This compost is versatile enough to cope with all your plant needs: this version slowly releases nutrients over a period of three months, which is perfect for the summer season.
