Although there is no official word of the original stereo audio being remastered along with the video, the 80s horror favorite is nonetheless welcomed into home theaters with an excellent DTS-HD Master Audio 5. Haim shows serious comedic charisma and Sutherland intensity and wisdom beyond his years (rather fitting for a vampire). This is most apparent during daylight sequences where we can make out the tiniest imperfection of grandpa's house, the small pebble in the road and the distinct leaves in the surrounding foliage. Unlike the tonally similar 'An American Werewolf in London,' where the humor was usually borne out of the tension of the situation and actually increased our uneasiness, in 'The Lost Boys' the jokes simply deflate any atmosphere of dread, letting the film quickly devolve into camp. An improved, more well-defined mid-range exhibits clean distinction and separation in the upper frequencies, maintaining outstanding clarity during the loudest segments and in the variety of song selections.

The 4K disc in the package will work on any UHD player, but the Blu-ray is Region B only and the DVD is Region 2 only. In an era when slasher movies had finally worn out their welcome, and there was little "fresh blood" to be found in horror, the early buzz on 'The Lost Boys' pegged it as just the antidote needed to inject some much-needed life into a moribund genre. So while again, there’s no added value in the form of any new supplemental features, at least we’re getting all the previously produced extras…. This is a stellar upgrade from the previous blu ray and the film sparkles with its 4k presentation and I’ve seen this film countless times but this surpasses every release by miles and felt I was watching it for the first time. But all of that is banished with the now clearly observed wonderful twinkling highlights of the glitter that cover the Frog Brothers after their staking of one of the vamps.Audio Commentary– The only supplement on the 4K disc is the commentary from the late director, Joel Schumacher. The reproduction, modification, distribution, or republication of the content without permission is strictly prohibited. Let’s face it, if you’re a fan of vampire movies then there are no shortage of films to choose from. Greg Cannom’s vampire make-up is first rate and a complete re-invention of well-trodden (even back then) preconceptions, deciding to move where the fangs would be in the mouth and balance the actor’s good looks with subtle prosthesis.
