About this deal

Thanks Ricky, it seems as though just running 3 of the IBM ServeRAID M1015’s will do the trick for 24 drives. Can I simply attach the orphaned SFF-8087 cable to that available port on the LSI to get the remaining 4 drives connected or will it not work because it's expecting an expander since there's an expander on the other port? This client has a virtual media feature that allows you to attach ISOs, hard drives, flash drives, etc. I believe it is from the same family as the 9210-8i so may have the same driver, there is no win 10 but the 8.

LSI 9211-8i SAS2008 6.0gbps SAS 2/ SATA III RAID 0/1/10

The dmesg output and mpsutil output shows that it detected *something* new when hot-plugged into New Slots, but FreeNas is not getting updated to attach them. I finally got it to work by opening the Java remote KVM / IPMI client in a Ubuntu VM with the javaws command, which is installed by the icedtea-netx package. I moved this site 6 months ago and noticed only now that I lost the files there were referenced in the original article => now you should have everything. The goal of STH is simply to help users find some information about server, storage and networking, building blocks. You'd need to get a SAS2 expander, like the Intel RES2CV240 or similar, or a chassis that comes with an expander and backplane, as well as the various cables to connect the 9211 to the expander (SFF8087 to SFF8087) and then the expander to the drives. If you have a very old PC/server that does not have a UEFI bios you can use a normal MSDOS bootable OS like FreeDOS and that should be it. In this mode, the disk's diagnostic info, like SMART data, is sent out like normal for the OS and other software to handle.

LSI Internal SATA/SAS 9211-8i 6Gb/s PCI-Express 2.0 RAID

The new LSI 9206-16e will come equiped with two SAS2308 controllers, no PLX bridge and on a more standard PCIe Gen3 x8 interface. I wrote a guide to cross flashing the IBM ServeRAID M1015 firmware which has been very popular among those looking to save some cash. This card has a fascinating history but is still affordable for the features it enables, whereas similar cards could cost hundreds of dollars more. This article will aim to clarify some of those details so you can know what the card does and how you can use it in your setup.Hopefully, you have a better idea of the 9211-8i HBA card and how you can use it in your homelab and home server needs. A couple of LSI HBA controllers worthy of a mention are the LSI 9202-16e and the not yet released LSI 9206-16e, these 2 cards come with dual controllers on one card. This performance saving is due to the HBA cards having integrated processors responsible for managing these IO operations and other features like RAID natively on the HBA card. I find it really unlikely/odd that the servers have been put on a shelf for three years and now IBM wants to sell them but with some upgraded parts like this card. that vendor wrote]However my supplier have told me that these cards were pulled from the servers when they were purchased and have been in storage since then.
