The story begins with John’s memories of his childhood, when his father bought him a cute little dog he named Saint Shaun, as the dog was that kind of pet, who perfectly fit in the family, was the best friend to little John, who was a kind of wonder for the guests of the Grogans. A bloated stomach sends Marley to the vet a final time, where John says goodbye to his beloved companion before giving the vet permission to put Marley to sleep. Marley was suffering for 1,5 years, trying on his last legs to be that, young Marley, but his time was out.

It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.The story was inspired by the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Grogan’s obituary for his dog Marley. His behavior is not perfect, it’s not even good: he eats everything he see, his saliva and hair is everywhere, he rushes both at friends and strangers, but everybody, who deals with him is deeply imbued with attachment to this madcap creature. Signs that Marley may not be the ideal Labrador appear early, foreshadowing a series of ongoing debacles resulting from Marley’s unending energy and disobedience. I have not had an easy life so my new family will need to be patient with me and continue to teach me my doggie manners.
