About this deal

While Agatha Christie eventually grew tired of Hercule Poirot, describing him as ‘an egocentric creep’ and devising a deeply divisive ending for him, she retained her affection for the far more personable Miss Jane Marple. She then worked for several years as a fiction editor in the publishing industry – during which time she also wrote her debut, The Book of Lost and Found. In The Disappearance, Leigh Bardugo reunites Miss Marple with the marvellous Dolly Bantry and has the pair investigate the disappearance of the handsome Michael Barnsley-Davis from Gossington Hall just days before he was due to get married.

McManus, Kate Mosse, Leigh Bardugo, Lucy Foley, Naomi Alderman, Natalie Haynes, Ruth Ware, Val McDermid in the comments below! In Marple: Twelve New Stories, a dozen bestselling contemporary authors each reimagine Miss Marple and provide a new puzzle for her to solve. I grew up reading Agatha Christie novels with my grandmother, and it is a memory that will always stay with me. The collection is authorised by Agatha Christie Ltd and is seen as a means to introduce a new generation of readers to Agatha Christie's to the exploits of her famous detective Jane Marple. There are also a few names that have cropped up from previous stories, Raymond her nephew, Cherry her maid, Dolly Bantry, Sir Henry Clithering and a few more.

In The Jade Empress by Jean Kwok (4/5) we find Miss Marple on a cruise to Hong Kong during which two murders occur and the daughter of one of the victims is the accused.

In Miss Marple Takes Manhattan, Alyssa Cole relates Miss Marple’s stay in New York as she awaits the Broadway debut of West’s latest play. Agatha Christie's iconic detective is reimagined for a new generation with a murder, a theft and a mystery where nothing is quite what it seems. A Deadly Wedding Day" by Drea Say Mitchell (2 stars)-This didn't feel like a Miss Marple story, but more like a Miss Bella story. The Jade Empress was entertaining, but my credulity was stretched too far by the concept of Miss Marple joining in with Tai Chi.

I have to say, I’m sure even the most die-hard Miss Marple fan will be happy with these new stories. If you’re a fan of Agatha Christie, Alyssa Cole, Dreda Say Mitchell, Elly Griffiths, Jean Kwok, Karen M. Since its publication in the United Kingdom, it has been issued in the USA, Germany, Israel, Holland, Poland and France and is due to be published in Italy, Hungary and Croatia. I am happy to say that I enjoyed most of them, 'The Second Murder At The Vicarage' by Val McDermid, 'The Mystery of the Acid Soil' by Kate Mosse and 'The Disappearance' by Leigh Bardugo in particular. If the point is to showcase the authors and make you want to purchase one of their other books, then it was a futile exercise.

Can’t wait for Agatha Christie, Alyssa Cole, Dreda Say Mitchell, Elly Griffiths, Jean Kwok, Karen M. Miss Hartnell's jaw dropped, revealing large yellow teeth that would have been more at home in the mouth of Colonel Bantry's favourite hunter. Miss Marple was first introduced to readers in a story Christie wrote for The Royal Magazine in 1927 and made her first appearance in a full-length novel in 1930’s The Murder at the Vicarage. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose.
