About this deal

offers a grab bag of Millington's often provocative work in porn, as well as a documentary about her. If you wanted to see real porn you didn't need to go to the cinema to watch softcore bouncing breasts - you could now get your hands on hardcore material on video cassettes, which, at the time, weren't regulated. If one woman embodied the contradictions at the heart of post-war Britain’s uneasy relationship with sex and smut, it was the diminutive, blonde with the Colgate smile who would become the UK’s first lady of sex. The Playbirds is a bizarre fusion of b-movie thriller and exploitation spectacle only the British could make.

Filmed over four weeks in the winter of 1977, The Playbirds was the official follow-up to Come Play with Me, which also starred Mary Millington. In London, an unidentified serial killer targets female models, strangling each woman and marking the forehead with the number of the victim. Ransome, who secretly enjoys pornography that he obtains from Day, tries to slip into a house party being hosted by Dougan and some of the models. The Mary Millington Movie Collection’ Limited Edition Blu-Ray Box-Set (Screenbound Pictures) released 22 June 2020. It was the official follow-up to Come Play with Me, one of the most successful of the British sex comedies of the 1970s, which also starred Millington.

Bonus disc, Sheridan’s acclaimed documentary, Respectable – The Mary Millington Story, is the box set’s crowning glory, having received a premiere at the Regent Street Cinema in 2016 before debuting on Netflix in the US, UK and various Commonwealth countries. The Mary Millington Movie Collection arrives in a thick chipboard slipcase holding five slim-line BD cases and an 80-page squarebound book, packed with rare archival photographs and in-depth essays on each movie by biographer Simon Sheridan (author of Keeping the British End Up: Four Decades of Saucy Cinema). Beset by personal problems like kleptomania and massive debt, Mary Millington’s rough lifestyle finally caught up with her in an overdose.

There’s all the context you need in the form of Simon Sheridan’s accompanying, 80-page book, titled Mary! The Blu Ray was released by Screenbound Pictures and has audio commentary by Simon Sheridan and Willy Roe. The set also contains my 2015 movie Respectable: The Mary Millington Story, in which I chronicled her amazing life through interviews with her family, friends, lovers and co-stars.A firm believer in physical media, his ever-growing film collection has begun threatening the space-time continuum with its enormous mass. He is assumed to be the killer and attempts to flee, but in the ensuing police chase nearly drowns in a pond and is taken to hospital. By the mid-1970s Mary started securing small supporting roles in British comedies like Eskimo Nell ( 1975) and Keep It Up Downstairs ( 1976).

Disc Four wraps up two posthumous films, Queen of the Blues and Mary Millington’s True Blue Confessions, and their inclusion is testament to Simon Sheridan and Screenbound’s dedication to present the cinematic CV of Mary, ‘warts and all’. In April 2016 David Sullivan and I unveiled a plaque celebrating the record-breaking run of Come Play With Me on the front of the old cinema building. The box-set contains all the movies produced by Mary's mentor David Sullivan: the peak of her career. It’s sad to see the potential of The Playbirds squandered in this embarrassing dud – even Lake’s missus, the wonderful Diana Dors, phones it in.Audio Commentary on True Blue Confessions with biographer Simon Sheridan and producer David Sullivan – For some reason they forgot to include this commentary in the menu. Aural Sex (07:02 in HD) – Featurette narrated by actress Clyda Rosen, including a complete 1977 erotic audio recording by Mary Millington.

Scotland Yard detectives Jack Holbourne and Harry Morgan are assigned to investigate and discover that all of the women had recently appeared in the pornographic magazine Playbirds. Cheaply made with poor writing and uneven performances, they are aimed at the men that grew up during the Seventies wanting a nostalgic reminder of their misspent youth. New Mary Millington s True Blue Confessions audio commentary by biographer Simon Sheridan and executive producer David Sullivan. The pretty girl-next-door rose from obscurity as a model working for adult publisher David Sullivan (the British Hugh Hefner) to everlasting stardom overseas in 1977’s Come Play With Me.
