About this deal

Miss Jennifer Honey is a kind and affectionate person who, despite her past, is kind to her students and everyone around her.

In 1996, Roald Dahl’s Matilda, one of the most iconic children’s stories ever written, was turned into an equally beloved movie – and the story of its creation is pretty surprising. When Matilda discovers that she has telekinesis, she starts using her powers to exact revenge on her parents and her school principal. Some fans have speculated that this might have been a reference to The Twits—another book by Roald Dahl.

What is worse for Miss Honey was when she was five when her father died (the cause of which is unknown, but is thought to have been a suicide), leaving her to be tortured by Trunchbull. The award is voted on by actual children, and is awarded every year in the UK to the books the kids choose as their favorites. As well as trivia, we’ve uncovered plenty of shocking celeb photos and there’s also a whole host of articles devoted to revealing what your favourite celebrities from the 70s and 80s look like today. Roald Dahl’s Completely Revolting Recipes is a collection of 50 recipes from the author’s most popular books.

It might be surprising that anyone would object to the existence of a Matilda film, but Dahl’s widow, Liccy Dahl, had been unimpressed with previous film adaptations of both Willy Wonka and the Chocolate and The Witches. In the movie version of Matilda, the portrait of Miss Honey’s father is really a picture of the Roald Dahl himelf.Forced to deal with her crooked and cruel father and mother, as well as the evil, bullying principal at her school, she takes solace in the library and reading. It felt as if I had been given a wonderful gift and was being invited to enter a different world, an underground world for children… I passionately wanted to make it into a movie”. If you fancy something a bit more niche then don’t worry – we’ve also got plenty of content on cult hits such as Twin Peaks, The X-Files and Quantum Leap. We’ve got the 1980s covered but also have popular list articles on some of the biggest blockbusters of all time, including the Marvel franchise, Pixar films and the Star Wars universe. In the case of Disney and Pixar movies, it’s not uncommon for films to feature countless references to the studios’ other properties, whether they’re integrated into the background of shots or just referenced in dialogue.

Wormwood was modelled after a man named Ginger Henderson who owned the gas station in town, and was known as a “black market dealer. Dahl, who is now known to have held many morally questionable views, originally described her as "a devilish little hussy," and she started out as a character who wreaked havoc at school and harassed her poor, kind parents. In addition to the fact that it required some pretty intense stunt work from a child actor, and the fact that it led to Pat Ferris getting her fingers sliced open on the wire, it also caused some continuity issues in the editing room. It’s impressive that DeVito managed to work so many revolting character details and habits into his performance, given that acting was far from the only thing he had to worry about throughout the production.Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman decided to adapt Matilda into a movie after reading the novel to their kids.

The location moved from the UK To Los Angeles for the film; the Wormwoods, as well as the majority of the characters, were made American instead of British; and Crunchem Hall is made into an American Public School instead of a British Private School. Craig Lamar Taylor is known for his role as wheelchair-bound Stevie on the popular sitcom Malcom in the Middle. Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito played Matilda’s parents in the movie, and Perlman was also DeVito’s wife at the time. When the headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, refuses, Miss Honey decides to give Matilda upper-level textbooks so she can study independently. Ten years later, the book was voted “The Nation’s Favorite book” in England in a Bookworm poll conducted by the BBC.After Matilda shares with Miss Honey the news of her strange power and Miss Honey shows Matilda that she lives in a tiny farm laborer’s cottage, Miss Honey agrees to share her story.
