Side-by-side with the last-gen rendition, there's a night and day improvement in the quality of the visuals while absolutely nobody can complain about a 30fps shooter transitioning across to 60fps while delivering this huge improvement to the overall quality. While 1080p is the target, I feel that the console rarely attains it, with 864p the more usual pixel count - maybe lower, depending on the content. Their destination isn’t close either, but they find themselves a fully functioning train and that gets them going. With a storyline that sidesteps the supernatural themes of its predecessors in favour of focussing on a more affecting human experience, and level design that affords you significantly more freedom without giving you too much room to relax, Metro Exodus feels like the full realization of this series’ potential. The more they are pumped, the harder they are to press down, which is a thrilling touch, especially when you are in the middle of a fight.
