About this deal

Kirsty - Hijacked by Twins recently posted… Cheap Budget Meals - Tasty Homemade Recipes Within Budget! Read and Create is a personal blog, featuring children's literature and the play, crafts, outings and food inspired by stories. I used to memorise poems as a child and it means a lot to me when parents tell me their child can recite one of my books. Axel Scheffler's distinctive illustrations bring the characters and settings of "Monkey Puzzle" to life. Before you turn the page there is always a clue as to which animal is next, so as you read you can guess what’s coming up next.

Despite the butterfly's best efforts, these misidentifications lead to humorous interactions and highlight the differences between various jungle inhabitants. We want a song about throwing crumpled-up wrapping paper into the bin” was a typical request from the BBC. My daughter is 11 months old and we have been reading this book multiple, multiple times a day for weeks. Monkey Puzzle is also one of the stories included in the show “Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales” by Freckle Productions, which frequently tours the UK.

Once more this misleads butterfly as she produces a snake, so Little Monkey has to tell him that his mum has more legs than that. Monkey says no,no,no that's not my mum,he says that his mum is furry, so butterfly leads him to a spider. This is an endearing story about a monkey who loses his Mum and is helped by a butterfly to try and find her. I really enjoyed reading this book and reading it to a class of children because they seem to enjoy it and engage with the story.Elephant might be bigger than the little monkey and the snake might coil around trees but they are not the little monkey’s mum. With its relatable characters and whimsical narrative, the book has become a staple in children's literature. Monkey Puzzle has again pretty illustrations by Axel Scheffler that are engaging and fun to look at.

His vibrant and expressive artwork adds depth to the story, making it an immersive experience for young readers. Monkey Puzzle works really well in a primary-school drama session, with the children miming the various animals. One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. It also had a lovely link that although many babies look like their mum/dad, the butterfly's children are caterpillars.

The book can be used to teach children about different kinds of animals in the jungle and they can use can role-play to re-tell the story.

You could use the story to talk about different animals, introduce some mathematics by counting each animals’ legs or do some biology and talk about metamorphosis and the lifecycle of a butterfly.she'd rather eat fruit than swallow a fly, And she lives in the treetops way up high' is Little Monkey's next clue. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. I was worried it would be too long, but the rhymes kept the littler ones engaged, and the older ones liked the story. You could also read the story before a trip or a holiday to discuss with a young child what they should do if they ever do become lost (not a comfortable idea to entertain but it is certainly an important subject to discuss if you feel your little one is old enough). She lives in Glasgow and spends a lot of time on stage performing her brilliant sell-out singalong shows!
