About this deal

Nests are spherical and made of tightly woven grass and are elevated from the ground in tall grasses.

For any mouse infestation, we would always recommend contacting a professional pest control company through BPCA. Found throughout mainland Britain (and only parts of Scotland) and on some of the larger islands including the Isle of Wight, Anglesey, Arran, Skye and Mull. In contrast to the characteristics of a mouse, voles have smaller ears, eyes and tails, with a rounded snout. A pest professional will have access to monitoring equipment, which they will use to confirm entry points into your property, the size of the infestation and to track the mouse to its harbourage (nest). Orange/yellow coat on top with yellow underside and white on throat, much paler than the wood mouse which has a red/brown coat on top with contrasting pale (often white) underside. However, it is possible that your home can become home to two or more different families of mice or multiple different families of rats. Most mice species have a very short life expectancy in the wild – up to a year – with the exception of the dormouse, which can live for up to five years. Burrows probably survive from one generation to the next and will be enlarged or modified as required. Field mice are much more suited to nesting outdoors, but will possibly move indoors once the weather gets colder. But as the weather gets colder, those field mice currently surviving outdoors will look for warmer places to nest and begin to move indoors.

Their tails are almost completely hairless, and around the same length as the body, measuring around 5- 10cm. If you get a closer look: unbroken yellow band around neck, joining forelegs, whereas in wood mouse there is just a longitudinal yellow/orange streak down the chest (this is the distinguishing feature between the two species, do not attempt to identify these two species without a close up view of this, they are usually too similar to tell apart without seeing this).

Wood mice are also frequently confused with this vole but they have long tails and move much more quickly.

If you have a lot of vegetation and foliage nearby this is perfect for mice to shelter in, until the time comes for them to find somewhere warmer.Shrews don’t hibernate, but they do become less active in winter, living in burrows that may have been made by other species. While both rodents make the same sounds, generally, those from a rat will be louder because of its larger weight and greater strength. Professional pest controllers will take an integrated pest management (IPM) approach to tackling your infestation. In a mixed deciduous woodland: acorns, ash and sycamore seeds for most of the winter, buds in early spring, caterpillars, worms and centipedes in early summer and blackberries and fungi in the autumn.
