The play is very cleverly and wittily performed by the experienced and talented cast members, also joined by Anna Mitcham who plays the playwrights’ glamorous secretary, Jill Prentice and Detective Inspector Berry, who is a huge thriller fan played by Jeremy Lloyd Thomas.

I’m no new arrival to the classic mysteries of Agatha Christie and yet I still loved this wonderful version of an absolute classic. There were times during the performance when couples in the audience turned their heads from the stage to grin at each other as they identified with quarrels taking place on stage.Pride And Prejudice’s most roguish gentleman, George Wickham, will seek to set the record straight when Adrian Lukis performs in Being Mr Wickham from October 14 to 16. To complete the line-up is Joan’s extra-marital partner Don, a hilarious character played by Stephen Fletcher. Director Jake Smith says: “Sleepy Hollow is undoubtedly one of the greatest horror stories ever written and a tour de force to stage. When a police sergeant arrives, the guests discover – to their horror – that a killer is in their midst!

The language was overwrought and paragraphs unnecessarily wordy, and the characters' speech was stuffed with so much contemporary language - 'good eggs', 'shilly-shallying' that I felt the author was trying overly hard to cement the period setting in the reader's head. Agatha Christie’s world-famous novel has been adapted for the stage for the first time in Europe by multi award-winning Ken Ludwig, whose previous Tony Award-winning productions include Crazy For You and Lend Me A Tenor. Protest-song celebration of northern working-class activism The Young’uns in The Ballad Of Johnny Longstaff. In revenge, he decides to concoct an ingenious plot to trap Arthur involving his own wife and Arthur’s partner who, it appears, have been having an affair.

With occasional touches of humour, this is a compelling and engaging Christmas historical crime novel that I enjoyed immensely. Overall, I enjoyed the book to be a one-time cozy read, but the writing style is a bit off for me and would look for better plot arrangement in future books by the author. The set is brilliantly envisaged by Simon Kenny; my only reservation here being the realisation of the last scene. His film and television credits include Man and Boy, EastEnders, Footballers Wives, Peak Practice and Mr Selfridge. Over the last twenty years, Torben Betts has built up a reputation for writing dark comedies of social embarrassment.
