About this deal

Ideal when the sound source is further from the microphone, like in gaming when the person needs to be closer to the screen or gaming console. There may still be a bit of post-processing required if you’re recording via XLR, but it’s minimal at best. The app is very straightforward to use, and allows you to adjust a number of settings to produce the cleanest recording.

You can even use a lightning cable (bought separately) to use the mic with an iPad or iPhone - allowing for some high-quality content creation while you're on-the-move! And as the amount of content creators (and their respective audiences) has grown, the need for professional-grade audio quality and production has never been more important. On the back of the body, you’ll find an XLR, (a somewhat outdated) microUSB, and headphone jack output. I’m also not a big fan of the way you have to reach around the bracket to access the touch controls.

Both the SM7B and MV7 are low sensitivity, cardioid dynamic microphones with relatively flat frequency responses and high dynamic ranges. In fact, I'd say the Wave 3 is the closest competitor to the MV7, more so than the Yeti X or Quadcast. It’s become an audio icon for good reason: few microphones can rival its warm, rich tone, fantastic isolating properties and overall versatility. I have the SM7B and know how powerful it is, so I was a little skeptical about the MV7 knowing some of the qualities might be compromised. This intuitive engineering works to highlight your voice, no matter what kind of environment you might be working in.

We are aware and working on resolving an issue where the app stalls at launch/loading for some users. Sound quality is fantastic, it’s super-convenient to use and the provision of both USB and XLR connections means it gives you room to grow. This will save valuable editing time in post-production and keep the volume consistent throughout – it’s like having a virtual engineer by your side! Unfortunately, most consumer grade audio interfaces and mixers only provide about 40dB of gain, which means you'll have to invest in a Cloudlifter or preamp to provide you with enough additional boost. Activate Auto Level Mode, select your preferred voice tone and distance from the microphone, and let the microphone adjust your level in real time for a consistent output, no matter if you’re recording or live streaming.

Take advantage of additional features and design enhancements by updating the firmware when prompted. Inspired by the legendary SM7B, the MV7 is a dynamic microphone with both USB and XLR outputs for use with computers and professional interfaces alike. While the Shure MV7 is a stellar microphone, the SM7B is more suited for applications beyond the human voice. Whether you’re the constant collaborator or a lone wolf when it comes to production, the Shure MV7 deserves a spot on your desk.
