About this deal

Like any sci-fi story worth its salt, there’s a mysterious scientific society, a handsome mentor, and a collection of weird energy monsters that may or may not be linked to a spate of historical disappearances around Grunsby-on-sea, but it loses precedence to the emotional beats, primarily involving Stephen coming to terms with himself and finding himself in a romantic quandary. He’s soo compelling and his fear—not only of his emotions—but of judgement and rejection, make for an inspiring protagonist that I know a lot of young people will find relatable. When she turns up in Grunsby-On-Sea with her boyfriend Marcus and friend Troy in tow, Steven isn’t sure what to think. Everything about the characters was extremely well done and I loved the multiple POVs that the we, as the readers, are given to fully process every point in the story. I still think this YA urban fantasy is still worth the read if you're looking for a young teen with superpowers.

OVEREMOTIONAL: your new queer YA obsession! by David Fenne

Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots. Our guide on how to run a school book club, which covers both primary school book clubs and secondary school book clubs. It is a brilliant adventure, with some huge plot twists … and oh, by the way, the main character is gay! There was of course also the severe power imbalance with this guy being Steven's only hope for a normal life. Fleeing to the miserable town of Grunsby-on-Sea, Steven is determined to not hurt anyone else - but he doesn’t count on his best friend Freya, her boyfriend Marcus and American friend Troy following him.

Perfect for preschool fans of the CBeebies hit Bing, Stuckie Duckie Balloon is a colourful and engaging story that will encourage children to think about taking turns and sharing. I found many of those characters pretty incompetent, especially ones that are part of the DEMA organization. Nevertheless, I think the “wholesome” marketing should definitely come with a few content warnings, especially with regards to the initial relationship (the age gap is concerning when considering the impressionable age of the target audience) and horror content. His first play, The Empire Has Fallen, was produced back in 2019 and tackled what happens after the fall of a dystopian government in a darkly funny way. A fun and humorously heartfelt, queer coming-of-age story, that perfectly captures the awkwardness of growing up (complete with all the emotional, angsty bits) but with an X-Men meets Agents of S.While this book was advertised as a cute, funny “Heartstopper meets Stranger Things” it is so much more than that! The story is so engaging, I'm so attached to the characters, I'm so in love with this story and this world. The narrative, told from multiple first-person perspective (stevens, Freya, Marcus, Troy and report logs) spans 40 chapters and 336 pages. I did not get bored even once, the world building around the powers is so interesting and new in some way.
