The Peterlee factory stayed open until Dececember 2017 when Walkers closed the facility citing productivity and efficiency savings with production moved to other UK facilities.

Thereafter, Tayto changed the name of their snack to "Mighty Munch" to differentiate between the Tayto and Walker snacks.
