Following the recent renewal of interest in Britpop comes the reissue of Pulp's widely revered 1995 LP 'Different Class'. He sang for people like himself—common people, as their hit single would have it—those raised on a diet of broken biscuits, those who would drink and dance and screw because there's nothing else to do. Pulp aren’t an obviously innovative band, but on Different Class they almost never lapse into the overt retro-stylings of so many of their Britpop peers: Blur’s Kinks and new wave homages, Oasis’ flagrant Beatles-isms, Elastica’s Wire and Stranglers recycling. Comprised of various labels we know and love at Rough Trade (Bella Union, ATO, Speedy Wunderground, Phantasy, Heavenly, Mute and more) PIAS [Recordings] filter through some of the most diverse artistry to our racks, which we greatly enjoy digging into.

Be aware that even sealed copies of this may have vinyl that looks and plays like it been thrown through a hedge.This might be the best of the lot I’ve owned but the CD and even the streaming service versions are superior to this and any others. Slow start aside, Pulp peaked at the pinnacle of the Britpop movement and became the very embodiment of Britpop.

I never thought I would say “I have a original pressing of different class on vinyl”, but here we are now. Reproduction is prohibited other than in accordance with the copyright notice, which forms part of these terms and conditions. which would go on to become the biggest-selling record of the decade in the UK (thus ultimately winning the ‘war’ with their rivals).

On Friday, Different Class was celebrated and lauded by so many people across social media, and many people were sharing their memories of when it came out and the tracks that mean the most to them. The negs: the drums have no punch, they barely register and there is almost no change in dynamics when transitioning from the quiet to loud parts rendering the tension and release that pulp are masters of non existent.
