About this deal

WCG and HDR (of the Dolby Vision variety) work wonders with the darker sequences - flaming torches against the pitch black night look surprisingly good - and with the grimy dungeon in which the witch resides. The same can be said for Christian Slater, whose Jack Nicholsonisms don’t go anywhere as Will Scarlet and Mike McShane, though he gets by a little more, given that his performance is all drunken bluster (and one great joke: “Oh, is this your finger? Prince of Thieves was so big at the time, Mel Brooks made an entire parody film on it with great success. Everyone discusses the origins of the story and character, making a modern-day telling of this classic tale, and some funny anecdotes from the location shoot.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves dazzles in an all-new 4K restoration, accompanied by a king’s ransom of new and archival bonus features. The film itself stands the test of a few decades with this ability to have an entertaining and fun time by not crossing over into those darker territories that are so often seen today. produced for this release that includes a ton of interesting interviews with Pen Densham, John Watson and a number of other production personnel. Finally, look for Kevin Reynolds’ Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) on 11/28 in Blu-ray and 4K Limited Editions, as well as Blu-ray and 4K Steelbook Limited Editions. It makes for a surprisingly good companion-piece to Reynolds and Costner's other blockbuster, Waterworld, which you can also enjoy on 4K, the main difference here being that Arrow have handled this 4K release (whereas they only handled Waterworld's tremendous Limited Edition Blu-ray set), which means that we actually get both cuts of the movie - Theatrical and Extended - as well as all of the extras, on the 4K disc itself. For this review of the new 4K disc from, appropriately, Arrow Video, I took my first look at the theatrical cut, finally fully uncut, in probably 20 years. It made me appreciate the ATMOS arrow effects whooshing past my ears in the Gladiator 4K and wish it was present here. This movie meant something and with Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman, and even Christian Slater's performances - it revealed that there was new life in this beloved character that not only did great things but had fun while doing so.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves 4K - Blu-ray

Great performances abound including Morgan Freeman as the Moorish warrior Azeem, Alan Rickman as the hysterical Sheriff of Nottingham, and Kevin Costner as our stalwart Robin of Locksley. Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves bows to 4K in a great Limited Edition on Arrow Video packed to the gills with bonus features, goodies, and new transfers. The discs are housed inside a cardboard case with that amazing hard cardboard sleeve with new artwork. The two, as disparate as they may seem, make for some fun heyday Costner 90's blockbuster action; guilty pleasures that absolutely nobody should feel guilty about enjoying. Alan Rickman, only a few years past Die Hard here, drops the German accent and hams up his Hans Gruber to outrageous levels.
