Most refreshing though was the ability of the author to complete a book without those nauseating expletives that one finds in so many "modern" tales. Filled with twists, peppered with romance, and flavored with humor, the Wild Fens Murder Mystery series is perfect for fans of JD Kirk, JM Dalgliesh, Ann Cleeves, and Rachel McClean. Or is it Holly Quick’s pair of editors, who read about murder all day, but clearly aren’t telling the full story? I’m not sure if Dunbar should take it as a compliment that, even though we know what happened at the end of the first series, he remains a shifty presence – still suspicious, still not quite to be trusted. With no evidence to go on and no team to help them, the pair find themselves heading further into deep water, until they are faced with just one option—break the rules, and swim for the shore.I have enjoyed the meeting and getting to know the main characters and can't wait to see how they grow in the series off which I have already downloaded the next book. Sergeant Ben Savages character was amazingly well written too, I think it’s a testament to the writing that despite never seeing his family and only having (I believe) two instances of his home being described to us we know it so well. Despite this I will continue reading this series of which there is 11 in total so far, but given how I feel about DI Freya Bloom unless she has a bit of growth I’m going to dislike her more and more as the series goes on. But when Bloom learns that Emma was recently the suspect in another murder enquiry, she discovers that someone has taken the law into their own hands—and they are still tidying up loose ends. I know the east coast around the Lincolnshire area reasonably well so I can picture some of the places that are mentioned.
