About this deal

When the lens is set to Smooth where it feels quick and light to turn, but difficult to perform a zoom at a constant speed. As you move into the corners, the sharpness remains fairly consistent, with softening only really appearing in the very extremes. using a single AF area in the middle of the frame, where as you’d expect, the focus-pulling is smooth and confident. As I focus the lens closer, you’ll see the field of view broaden a little as if the zoom was becoming a little wider.

The 24-70 GM II is also extensively sealed against dust and moisture, and includes a rubber grommet at the lens mount. Although it has slightly worse AF and sharpness than the Sony, it’s not a big enough concern for me to care.As with all Sony lenses, the build quality is top notch, and I think the size, ergonomics, and comfort are great.

edit] The bokeh on the flower buds in the image after "Public Post" is probably one of the harshes examples of how "busy" bokeh can challenge a lens. As you gradually close the aperture, this darkening lifts and there’s a mild boost in overall corner crispness, but the lens really is performing well at 24mm.Overall, it's a superb performance in all respects except for its weird mechanical vignetting when shooting wide-open. Only the Panasonic has a different approach: you need to pull the focus ring back to engage manual focus.

The real kick, is the better your monitor quality and calibration - the more evident the variation will be.It will also work with APS-C sensor cameras with an effective increase in focal length to 36-105mm due to the crop factor. This newest Pocket model features a camera with a larger Type 1 sensor and a 2-inch rotatable touchscreen for vertical or horizontal framing. Even so, it’s about 200g lighter in weight and less of a handful, tipping the scales at 830g in Sony mount and 835g in L-mount. lenses from Sony and Panasonic - not to mention Canon and Nikon, should Sigma develop RF and Z-mount versions. Further switches and buttons include an AF/MF toggle switch and an AF-L (autofocus lock) button, which can be customised to carry out different functions, depending on camera type and model.

Zoomed to 28mm you can get surprisingly close to the subject and still enjoy a sharp centre, but the quality greatly deteriorates as you move towards the edges, especially at large apertures. The new lens also omits the optical stabilizer fitted to the SLR version, instead relying on in-body stabilization featured in current and recent Panasonic and Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. Oh and even when it’s set to smooth, I didn’t experience any creep with the barrel pointing directly up or down, so I didn’t miss the locking switch. On the fourth image the yellow-greens in the background don't start out like that, they are lighter and less saturated. The biggest issue though is vignetting, or darkening in the corners, even with shading compensation turned on. Wildman Jones I am sure it is safe to assume that you gained this knowledge from working with hundreds-thousands of Sony RAW files?
