About this deal

In the novel, Mollie's parents appear submissively resigned to their fate, and only turn to beating themselves in despair after their children have gone. As the story of the baby’s abandonment takes an ominous turn, another young woman mysteriously vanishes. With only twenty-four hours to make every second of Steven’s interrogation count, and scan his behaviour for hidden clues, Kim and her team soon link Steven to the abduction of several vulnerable girls – two were kept for a year and then released, unharmed – but where are Melody and the others? Her minimal social skills as a result of her upbringing cannot stop her from coming to the aid of suffering innocents.

And when Kim hits upon a shocking secret that changes everything she thought she knew about Helen, she realizes that the remaining family members are in grave danger. I have to admit I really wanted to read this book after seeing the blurb and knowing already a little of what it’s about. The book covers a Nazi policy (in connection with building the Aryan race) that is not as well known as their eradication of the Jewish people. Eventually 10 murders occurring in the previous and present years are what Detective Stone is set to investigate. But as she breaks the devastating news to the victim’s wife, Diane Phipps, Kim can’t help feeling that something isn’t quite right about the woman’s reaction.

The investigations soon gain momentum and Kim finds herself endangered at the center of a lethal individual doing their own twisted experiment.Just as Kim feels she’s making progress, a deadly threat is made to her own life by a dangerous psychopath from her past.

The way the author depicted Inge's story in that era with flavors of mystery, romance, betrayal and sorrow was truly outstanding. Quickly taking back charge of her team and the case, Kim visits Jamie’s parents and is shocked to hear that they had sent him to a clinic to ‘cure’ him of his sexuality. Even though Inge is telling her story herself, I didn’t feel attached to her or her feelings, neither I was able to feel joyful for the things she was happy nor could feel her sorrow. In a world where words fail to capture the depth of pain and trauma inflicted upon the Indigenous Australian community, poetry stands tall as a powerful tool for healing and storytelling. Brought this book as part of a book club and would never have picked it up before but gave it a go anyway.

Noyce predicts that the secret history of Aboriginal dispossession will now become fertile ground for future Australian film-makers: "If drama comes from conflict, there's no greater conflict in Australian history than the conflict between indigenous Australians and white settlers. I Kim Stone finds the body of a young woman lying in bed, with her throat slit and a knife in her hand. As the sorting begins, more victims are discovered, with their bodies depicting unthinkable horrors. And how what happened during war time, could affect an innocent German girl in such a way, years later. I was completely fascinated and this is possibly the best Kim Stone book I've read yet, even with the addition once again of the irritating Dr Alex Thorne.

I knew I would be hooked but this exceeded my expectations… had me shaking my head and saying WTF… Absolutely loved every moment of this book. I did not connect with any of the characters and it felt like our main characters reactions were too flat. Some of the problems (for me) were as minor as why Mama doesn't ask why Inge's clothes have been slashed to the more distracting way too perfect relationship with the ever endearing Wilf (who she has been going out with since she was about 12? Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Stolen Ones by Angela Marsons. He throws her phone to the ground, grinds it against the floor with the heel of his shoe and brings his face closer to hers.

I want Michael Hunter to fall so deeply in love with me that he can’t bear to be more than fifty feet away,” Cher declares to her best friends over cheesecake and wine. In the context of such changes, Noyce's and Olsen's assertions about the non-political nature of the film become more pertinent. We have a public holiday to recognise the soldiers who died in wartime before I was born, so why can we not at least recognise what happened to these children?
