Whether he was playing seedy landlord Rupert Rigsby in Rising Damp or frustrated suburban dreamer Reggie Perrin, Leonard Rossiter gave us performances so iconic, so utterly memorable, that they achieve timelessness. Although the actual broadcast was somewhat different to what is shown here, (for instance the young celebrities interviewed were the actor, Jenny Agutter; the Chairman of the Young Liberals, Peter Hain and the novelist Nik Cohn) this internal document gives an insight into the planning stage of the programme. This is a programme that might feature the Hillsborough disaster in one episode, Play School in another, and makes brilliant radio out of both. Sue MacGregor brings together a group of pioneering female newsreaders who helped to redress the gender balance in the television newsrooms of the 1970s and 80s. Kirsty Wark was appointed as the new presenter in May 2020, and her first episode, bringing together participants in the Black Wednesday exchange rate crash of 1992, was broadcast on 16 August 2020.
