About this deal

Note that if your wok or frying pan has a non-stick coating, it is preferable to use a rubber-tipped spatula for stir-frying to avoid scraping off the surface. These little pots hold chili in vinegar, sugar, chili flakes and other condiments that best work with the dish.

For crinkled linen or just refreshing things for another wear, I use my steamer every day in Thailand. The main reason for this is that the stove or cooker is not the most used appliance for most Thai cooks. There is much more to this subject than meets the eye but for cooking Thai food we suggest that you at least equip yourself with a sharp knife made for cutting vegetables if your budget allows, some form of shredder and a peeler. Be careful in socks, though, as the floors can be slippery – so a pair of “grippy socks” or “barre socks” is ideal. It couldn't be easier: Grab your favourite pair of mid-length shorts, add a comfortable pair of flip-flops, a stack of thin t-shirts and some linen shirts or polos. If cooking for many or making a lot of dehydrated foods like our mango sweets, then more specialist tools like a mandoline become worth the investment. A wok spatula – which is a long handled tool for turning and removing cooked food from the wok is pretty much a must too.

Remember that at more formal meals Thais tend to eat many dishes at once that are served for everyone at the table rather than dishes served individually. If you prefer a wok with a non-stick coating, be sure only to use soft spatulas when cooking, and never clean it with anything abrasive.

Placed over water inside a wok, they are useful for steaming numerous dishes, from fish to desserts, or simply for healthy steamed vegetables. For women, merino dresses are a nice option for dinners (when it’s either cooler or you're indoors) as you can roll them up and squash them to death in your suitcase and they still won’t wrinkle. While linen is my favourite fabric to wear in Thailand, you’ll expand your clothing options if you include thin cotton (like cotton voile) or light-weight viscose or rayon.

There are many different types of mortar and pestle on the market and for Thai cooking we recommend that you at least equip yourself with a granite medium sized mortar and pestle. We particularly like clear rectangular containers as they save space, can be stacked and you can see what is in them which reduces the need to label everything. First of all, start at SPF 30 but ideally choose SPF 50 or 70 if you’re planning to lie in the sun for hours or will be on the water.

Cast iron and carbon steel woks are highly recommended; however, try to purchase one that is seasoned. Although you can easily steam rice in a steamer, a rice cooker is more convenient as it can keep rice warm once cooked and does not occupy either the stovetop or your steamer. You may find a stand alone cooker appliance much like a giant toaster in some houses – especially condominiums – as built in ovens are less common. Last year, sunscreens containing coral-damaging ingredients were banned in Thai national parks (including Angthong National Marine Park near Koh Samui). For shoes, choose loafers or boat shoes over flip-flops or running shoes (really – stand back and watch service levels improve), but ensure they're slip-on rather than laced.

Pale people, you don't need convincing but those of you in the blasé "I-never-burn-I-just-tan" camp .Built in kitchen units are to be found inside upmarket properties and a few basic kitchen units will be found in condos but otherwise families will have concrete compartments built which are tiled. Any of these beach cover-ups are perfectly suitable for walking along a touristy beach or around your resort in Thailand. Choose leather-style sandals for a dressier trip, sandals for supreme comfort and Tevas for adventurous Thailand itineraries. Description If you love elephant pants, you will love this lively new print with majestic elephants trotting about as you're off chasing your boho dreams! Description The energy and stability of the color purple mingles with ambling gentle giants for a boho look that works as much for a quiet evening as it does for.
