Her plants and flowers were observed with complete botanical accuracy and in the fairies themselves she captured perfectly the unselfconscious grace of children, whom she used to sketch in her sister's school. Like the Pre-Raphaelite painters whom she so much admired, she believed in recreating the beauty of nature in art and in drawing from life. book of the flower fairies : Barker, Cicely Mary The complete book of the flower fairies : Barker, Cicely Mary

Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies™ books, published in the first half of last century, are known and loved around the world. We get to learn which flowers bloom in summer, winder, spring and autumn, and even which berries are edible and which ones will send you off into the land of poison. Small bookseller label, some abrasions caused by old cellotape, and the name of previous owner on front end papers. The complete collection of Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairy poems and illustrations with a stunning new cover. This collection is most complete and authentic that I've found, though reading a review elsewhere it sounds like editions pre-1990s are best as even these "complete" books in recent years have left out a few of the fairies.

I loved the Flower Fairies so much when I was young and now being able to read this with my daughter was such a lovely experience. Originally accompanied by a poem or verse dedicated to the individual Flower Fairy the charming characters and detailed artwork have also been translated into fiction for young readers as well as the New York Times bestselling Fairyopolis series. Obviously I was planning on slowly tracking down the remainder of the flower fairies books for my collection, and this book proves why we collectors make a point of gathering multiple editions or reissued work!
