This short story is about two art collectors recounting an intriguing tale about a young Marisa Coulter.This short story does not take place within the exact context of any of Pullman's full length novels in the Dark Materials or Book of Dust series, but is a macabre tale relating to a cursed painting and statuette which are unknown to the characters who fall victim to them, but to the reader are clearly a painting of Mrs Coulter and a statuette of her monkey daemon.
