About this deal

Butthe long and tortuous road that had brought the Cult this widespread acceptance was bound to claim its bounty. Even alongside the brilliance of every one of the songs listed above, the somewhat repetitive and unnecessary nature of 'Automatic Blues' seems to cut the flow slightly in an otherwise near-flawless album.

Sonic Temple (30th Anniversary Edition) [2019 Remaster]

After trimming down their track lengths on Electric, the band decides to revert back to having almost every song be like 5 minutes long. Sonic Temple is a straight forward heavy rock album influenced by the American music of the late seventies and early eighties. Astbury's vocal talent, Mickey Curry's suitably effective drum work and Jamie Stewart's groovy bass lines all flow together so very well. The album features some of the band's most popular songs, including " Fire Woman" and "Edie (Ciao Baby)". To accomplish this goal they recruited a rising star producer named Bob Rock, who’d cut his teeth engineering mega-platinum smashes ( Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet, Aerosmith’s Permanent Vacation) under Bruce Fairbairnand knew just how to infuse promising new Cult creations like "Sun King,""Sweet Soul Sister,""Soul Asylum" and the persistently flower-powered "Wake Up Time for Freedom" with grandiose, big-screen ambitions.John Leland of The New York Times deemed Sonic Temple "both [the Cult's] most conventional album and its most convincing", continuing: "Using a few simple riffs and images, the Cult creates an entire environment, one more exciting and stimulating than our own.

From day one, the British group kept everyone guessing, as they relentlessly evolved from the post-punk / Goth / New Wave / new romantic smorgasbord of 1984’s Dreamtime, through the sparkling nouveau psychedelia of 1985’s Loveto the roughneck blue-denim hard rock of 1987’s Electric.

Unfortunately, this was Stewart's last album with The Cult before his untimely departure, leaving the band the year following 'Sonic Temple's release.

With a strong sense of lyrical content, an equally as powerful feeling of co-operation and the fact that the band had already seemed to release their most successful album in 'Love', 'Sonic Temple' was a huge leap in the band's performance and progression. Parke Puterbaugh of Stereo Review considered that the band "borrows its inspiration" from Led Zeppelin, Queen and other AOR heroes from the hard rock Seventies, but "there's something perversely addictive about this music, with its upfront aggression and its slow-motion orgasms of drums and guitars building to a raunchy climax. Their fourth album, Sonic Temple was produced by Bob Rock and delivered three top 40 hits in the UK (‘Fire Woman’, ‘Edie (Ciao Baby)’, ‘Sun King’) and sold over 1. Bob Rock, the album's producer, washes blunt, powerful sound over the broadness of most of the band's strokes.Sire Records Company, Marketed By Reprise Records, A Warner Communications Company © 1989 Beggars Banquet Records Ltd. However, 'Sonic Temple' is not all about Billy Duffy and his beloved instrument, as the album cover misleadingly suggests. The box is a two piece, lift-off lid type and has a foam inner tray with recess areas for the cassette and backstage pass. As his band of three decades preps the release of its 10th album of elegant hard rock, he’s a starburst of creative ambition and hyper-curiosity, frustrated by the fiscal realities of digital-age music commerce and the stylistic expectations foisted upon veteran acts. Listen to the excitement of 'Fire Woman', the powerful AOR overtones of 'Sweet Soul Sister' and the brilliantly placed closer in 'Wake Up Time for Freedom', and you'll see just how well refined the band are as a unit.

The Cult - Sonic Temple Lyrics and Tracklist | Genius

This aspect of The Cult's performance has rarely let down the band's most devoted fans, yet it is partly the cause of 'Sonic Temple' being as timeless as it is.with all my lyrics I like to leave them open for people's interpretations and hope that people find themselves within my songs”, and on this particular album, that statement couldn't be any more true. Furthermore, the cymbals are actually put to good use on this album, rather than just being lightly tapped on the chorus and neglected in favour of arena rock drum banging in the verses.
