About this deal

The announcement comes after the English rock band auctioned off a signed guitar amp for the charity Milk Crate Theatre. In 1993, Record Collector described “The Walk” as “a head-on collision between the exaggerated 80s pop sound of ‘Let’s Go To Bed’ and the tumbling drums and morbid feel of ‘The Hanging Garden’. Update: I exchanged above copy for another from Rhino, and this second copy is flat and has only one skip at the start of "The Walk," rather than two, so that might be as good as it's going to get. A lot has been said about all of The Cure's cd releases, but poring over the many threads, one question I have doesn't seem to really be answered to my satisfaction. By ticking the SMS opt in box and submitting this form, I agree to receive text messages from and about The Cure (including prerecorded and/or by autodialer).

The most notable elements of this album are the closing track ‘The Lovecats’ which is just a pretty weird track about a suicide pact that was inspired by The Aristocats and the line on ‘The Walk’ where Robert Smith says ‘I saw you look like a Japanese baby’ because that makes like no sense. Let’s Go To Bed’ is a strong single - a funky bass line, odd but lovable synth bleeps, and a genuinely infectious chorus make for a little belter. Also of possible interest, I a/b'd the WG JW Let's Go to Bed with the original Fiction 7", and the 7" absolutely killed; again much fuller low end with richly detailed upper frequencies. With that in mind; if those with a deep-rooted love for the band’s more gothic moments are willing to open up to different version of The Cure they may just find more to enjoy than first assumed.Re-Ripping my Cure to Flac, Got to the Australian Digital Audio Technologies Warner/Fiction 3 For 1 Box, Can someone post EAC for Japanese Whispers, I want to see what master they used, here are mine, thanks! There won't be a reissue so I made my own japanese whispers using "greatest hits" for the a sides and "join the dots" for the b sides. The songs from the Let's Go to Bed and Lovecats singles on the WG CD pressing sounded more or less identical to the Sire LP, interestingly enough.

The Cure Announce ‘Japanese Whispers’ For Picture Disc Release

Let’s Go to Bed”, “The Walk”, and “The Lovecats” are The Cure at their pop best -- some of my favorite songs the past few years.

Got a copy of this recently, and the mastering is outstanding: crystal clarity, detailed, and punchy, and it sounds quite a bit better than my old 80s US Sire pressing. So then I a/b'd the 4 Walk EP songs on the WG CD with the UK Fiction Walk 12", and the differences between those were even more glaring. The singles marked a change of direction in The Cure’s sound, so it’s convenient then, that fans were offered an opportunity to collect the aforementioned singles (and their respective b-sides) in one, neat bundle entitled ‘Japanese Whispers’, to investigate this unassumingly important chapter in the bands eclectic catalogue.

The songs here are much more upbeat and synth heavy like ‘Just One Kiss’, ‘Speak My Language’ and opener ‘Let’s Go To Bed’ and The Cure work pretty well in this style. For "The Love Cats" single, a full band was assembled with the addition of bassist/producer Phil Thornalley, who had worked with the band on Pornography, and drummer Andy Anderson, a lineup which would continue for the Concert live album. music: i love this collection, it's one of my favorite Cure releases to put on if i just want a dose of fun and poppy Cure. However, my copy has a pronounced warp and several serious skips at the start of "The Walk" (even after cleaning it).Japanese Whispers is a compilation of Cure singles and B-sides that were released between November 1982 and November 1983. In 1986, the singles' lead tracks were included on the Standing on a Beach compilation album, while all of the B-sides were included on the 2004 B-sides and rarities box set Join the Dots. The band were obviously in a fragile state of mind when recording, as the eight tracks making up this odd compilation of non-album singles sound immediately less concerned than the gothic grandeur of The Cure’s last few albums, opting for quirky synths and silly pop lyrics over slow-building, atmospheric substance of yesteryear. So I decided to bring out some music that would destroy the whole myth of The Cure, and alienate the audience that had come to surround us. For the tracks from the "Let's Go to Bed" and "The Walk" singles, the Cure was a duo consisting of Tolhurst and Robert Smith, with the addition of session drummer Steve Goulding (a member of Graham Parker and the Rumour) for the tracks from "Let's Go to Bed".

There are many other surprising pleasures at play here as well -- “The Dream” has an amazing paranoid synth line, “The Upstairs Room” spits out compellingly wacky imagery, and “La Ment” is a psychedelic swirl of unsettling guitars. Having said that, ‘Japanese Whispers’ proved to be a crucial stepping stone in the group’s evolution, and is surprisingly brilliant in places (e.Despite this, ‘Japanese Whispers’ still stands as an important album in The Cure’s history, as its new musical direction acted as a pre-curser to more expirmental albums like ‘The Top’ and ‘The Head On The Door’ - almost like an EP, hinting that the group were ready for a change. definitely a departure from the dark depths of Pornography - something Robert Smith clearly needed to do after that album. I got out my Sire LP to a/b the two versions, and sure enough, the Dream on the WG CD - as well as the other three songs culled from the Walk EP - sounded muffled and muddy compared to the Sire LP.
