The author occasionally has moments where he infuses artificial meaning into scenes that are utterly mundane. It sorta makes you want to don your backpack and go on an historical adventure; one that makes you appreciate the current ability, if you possess a certain passport and are not a certain immigrant, to travel back and forth freely over arbitrary lines on a map. If you wish to create the illusion that your windows are taller than they actually are, you could position your pole as high as possible above your windows, and allow the curtains to puddle on the floor. At a time when Russia is once again making war, when divisions elsewhere in Europe are on the rise, and when the rhetoric and reality of the Cold War have resurfaced, these old fault lines have new resonance. The Iron Curtain divided the continent of Europe, with the Berlin Wall as its most visible, infamous manifestation. It’s really up to you if you want to match the color of the curtains to your interior but it’s important that whatever color you choose should complement the room like solid colors for a classic look or using 2 or 3 shades for a subtler look.
