About this deal

Rescued by a man who hates him yet is oath-bound to protect him, pursued by inhuman forces, Aren slowly accepts that everything he knew about his world was a lie.

And that doesn't go into the the fact that the mineral they're mining produces a highly combustible oil byproduct that can trigger massive explosions in the mines with little to no warning. The main plot of the story can actually be simplified down to very little, and it has almost nothing to do with the boys directly at all. The story was moving way too slowly, and it seemed like the author was taking every opportunity — no, likely more than every opportunity — to tell something else about the world and it’s history. If the fight truly cannot be won, is it moral to continue fighting even though it will kill untold thousands of your own people? This might feel somewhat like a classic fantasy tale, but the themes, tone and atmosphere are quite modern when it comes to character work – and you truly never know if a character is going to make it to the next page alive.

Thrown into a prison mine they plan their escape - only to be overtaken by events when they're rescued, and promptly find themselves in the middle of an ambush. That’s probably about one-fifth; I’m hoping it won’t be quite as long as its predecessor and certainly no longer, but who know what the gods of epic fantasy will decree?By the time they've escaped, they're unavoidably linked to Garric - their unwelcome saviour - and his quest to overturn to Dachen way of life. Overwatchman Klyssen was counting on this and was the only reason Aren was arrested in the first place. I think it will be most rewarding if you go into this book completely blind and let the author piece together this world in your mind. Aren ignores Cade’s jibes, keen as he is to embrace the ways of what he perceives as the Krodan master race. Honor Before Reason: Garric will keep his oaths, no matter how impractical or dangerous to himself they might be.
