About this deal

The book is told from multiple perspectives, and sometimes the perspective is anonymous and I fell into the trap of thinking that person was one character, then another--it was a challenge to puzzle out who it was and what their motivation was! The connection that forms between all of the characters was more convincing, and I particularly enjoyed the epilogue. It tells the story of a bunch of college friends, mostly lesbians, but including a gay guy and his boyfriend, having their 20th reunion at a beautiful rented home on the coast of Dover. C ross the River Vltava by the iconic Charles Bridge , or walk hand-in-hand up to the world’s largest ancient castle . I enjoyed the book very much; however, I want to know what happens to Geri and the woman on the train, Kat after her stay in hospital, the wedding.

A great book that can easily be read in one sitting and enjoyed by the fire with a cup of tea or sunbathing by the beach. Adrian Tinniswood has worked as an author, broadcaster, lecturer and educational consultant for nearly 30 years in both Britain and the United States. During the war, he’d found himself unable to respond to nature without remembering how the scent of hawthorn had vied with the stench of gas, the sound of birdsong had signalled a lull in the artillery barrage. We initially meet only the women: Ruth, a doctor, alcoholic, increasingly paranoid new mother, married to Toby, and whose life is rapidly unraveling; Jayne, ex-army, suffering from PTSD, married to Mark, also ex-army; Emily, the newbie in the group, younger than the others, and married to Paul. Their guests, Jayne, Ruth and Emily will have a girls night on Friday night, because each husband has found an excuse to arrive LATE-their husbands planning on joining them for the rest of the weekend, on Saturday.

Whilst I dream of this kind of opportunity coming my way, I will express my thoughts around The Long Weekend, the new contemporary release from bestselling author Fiona Palmer. It is still a very good read, atmospheric and a little disturbing as a group of friends on an isolated holiday receive a strange message. Jayne, Ruth, and Emily are our main characters although you do hear from others and one is a mystery. Combined with an unsavory cast of characters and continually changing perspectives, my mind was spinning! From the beginning it was evident that Beth wasn’t at the retreat for the same reasons as everyone else. However, one of Jan’s participant’s is interested in her for another reason, especially the mistakes Jan has made in her career.

Everything is a red herring under Gilly Macmillan's direction, which is what makes the first act of The Long Weekend extremely gripping, as the possibility seems endless.Once they're living with each other for four days, though, and introduce copious amounts of alcohol, cracks appear in what seemed to be an otherwise happy life. All the couples have flawed marriages and secrets they are keeping from each other and their partners. Beth, Simone, Alice and Jamie don’t know each other but before the three days are over, secrets from each of them will surface and they will know each other a whole lot better. I get it's "part of his character" and I wouldn't wanna hang out with such a lesbian and woman hating gay man (but it's cute! One of his stories concerns Christabel Hulme Hart, a Mayfair couturier who married the heir to the Ampthill barony, the Hon John Russell.

We all like to put on brave faces and pretend everything is alright when inside we are a ball of twisted emotions. Rob, Toby, Mark and Edie had all been close friends at school, along with the boys’ rugby coach Paul. Weight loss was Simone’s business along with the products she used to shift the weight over the last few years.Mark starts working at army intelligence, meeting with his wife Jayne: smart, secluded, straight-laced, tough woman who still has second thoughts why that handsome man chose her. Each character gets their chance to tell their story with each chapter dedicated to someone including tales from the past all woven together quite successfully. The note shockingly claims that one of their husbands will have been murdered by the time they read it. The long three chapter structure leads to a slower read overall, as it takes a long time for the action to ensue. This group of friends has stayed in touch and is aware of some of the issues going on with each other (cheating spouses, drinking problems, kids, etc) but they don't necessarily understand the extent of the issue.
