About this deal

Not sure how to rate this story of a young woman leaving her home and family to explore living a completely different kind of life than that which she's grown up with and been groomed to repeat. Colleen McCullough has not lost her ability to draw a reader in and create colourful, engaging characters. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. All used books might have various degrees of writing, highliting and wear and tear and possibly be an ex-library with the usual stickers and stamps.

My fellow chicks are reading this book over the course of three months and I do not want to inadvertently give anything away here. Meghann "Meggie" Cleary, a four-year-old girl living in New Zealand in the early twentieth century, is the only daughter of Paddy, an Irish farm labourer and Fee, his harassed but aristocratic wife. Kings Cross in Sydney during the 1960s was a hotbed of vice, corruption, drug and alcohol excesses, crime and deviance in all its forms, which simmered away beneath an outwardly charming cosmopolitan way of life of trendy cafes, delicious delicatessens, alternative entertainments and theatre, artisans and eccentrics. If you love reading Classic or Historical novels then make sure this one is at the top of your list. The realization and the strength Meggie had, to know the one true love she has, belongs to the church. My father is an ex-Catholic priest who left the church for my mother so when the mini series came out, the world stopped in my house for an entire week.

Meggie grows up without much knowledge of the adult world, and she eventually finds herself falling more deeply in love with Father Ralph, with no understanding of how her love could harm or hurt her. Being born and bred in Sydney, I can easily imagine a scenario such as this one, playing out at that point in time and in that context, without any poetic license! or rather a story fashioned through the entries in a diary beginning on January 1st 1960 and continuing with regular entries until May 1961. The central figures in this enthralling story are the indomitable Meggie, the only Cleary daughter, and the one man she truly loves, the stunningly handsome and ambitious priest Ralph de Bricassart.Like the old Celtic legend of the bird with the thorn in its breast, singing its heart out and dying. A modern alternative to SparkNotes and CliffsNotes, SuperSummary offers high-quality Study Guides that feature detailed chapter summaries and analysis of major themes, characters, quotes, and essay topics. Hoping to change Luke's ambition and settle him down, Meggie deliberately thwarts his usual contraception and bears Luke a red-haired daughter, Justine.

Used books have different signs of use and might not include supplemental materials such as CDs, Dvds, Access Codes, charts or any other extra material. You might in truth say I've known Meggie through flood and fire and emotional famine, and through death, and life. Written by 'Thornbirds' Australian author, Colleeen McCullough, and originally published as 'Angel Puss', I read as relief from serious reading (Sarum, Edward Rutherford). As this print on demand book is reprinted from a very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible.Set at a time when women were expected to marry and settle down, giving up their jobs if they had one, Harriet trains to become an X-ray technician at a city hospital and earns enough to rent a small apartment in Kings Cross. More importantly, they are stories that make us reflect on our own life, our own relationships and that is what this reading game is all about I suppose. Fee gives birth to twin boys, James and Patrick (Jims and Patsy), but shows little interest in them.
