About this deal

It's the ideal book for helping children to build resilience and embrace a 'can do' approach to life.

Rugby League legend Rob Burrow is to read a CBeebies Bedtime

Many of the illustrations have a black and white background with a colourful character in the foreground. On reflection this seemed rather more remote than beautiful, owing to the fact that he lived in a small caravan without electricity, mains water or any sensible form of heating. Tilda takes great comfort in knowing her world inside out, knowing where everything is and knowing what to expect…it could be said that she is a creature of habit - a trait that many readers, and young children, will relate to. Parents/carers etc can also have so much fun reading this to their children and whatsmore is that it is properly positive and can also be used as a bedtime story, or just curling up having a quiet time together. His illustration career has seen him design Halloween merchandise for a major supermarket, create the character 'Hector' for an Aardman-animated road safety campaign and his book illustration work includes the artwork for the phenomenally successful Skulduggery Pleasant series.

I've said it once and I'll say it again; Tom Percival's picture books belong on every child's bookshelf. The beautifully told story about a little girl who has her world turned upside down is very relatable, and as we aren't told why, makes it easy for children to insert their own worries into Tilda's story. It doesn’t deal with any actual ‘step-by-step’ breakdowns of what to do, but reminds you of key principles, such as being emotionally honest. The message is good that we should always keep trying, but I feel that the hyperbolic decision to do absolutely nothing and then to about face and try everything because of something she saw a ladybug do is kind of unrealistic. Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! It's well written for young children, with short sharp sentences, perfect for preschool and reception or primary 1 classes as fun and discussions can come out of this book. Things like playing with her friends, reading her books and creating games with her toys now all seem too hard - to the point where Tilda stops trying and just gives up.

Tilda Tries Again (Big Bright Feelings) by Tom Percival

We often used to talk to the children about 'being resilient' when I taught in early years and KS1 and perservere when things were tricky and to not give up.

The emotions are complicated, and I'm not even sure how to describe what emotion Tilda is experiencing except maybe hopelessness. This story has a bizarre time-slip in it and also features suggestions of magical occurrences that are not explicitly stated. Find out about the latest book in the 'Girl, Missing' series, Secret Sister, in this short video by author Sophie McKenzie. Of course now that I’m 35 and can still remember EXACTLY what it felt like to be 16 it doesn’t seem that unlikely anymore – ah, the follies of youth.

Former Leeds Rhinos player Rob Burrow is to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story using ground-breaking technology, the first time a bedtime story has been read this way. The illustrations are so cleverly done with a grey palette at times when feelings are tricky with splashes of colour. Author Luke Palmer introduces his new book, Play (Firefly Press) about four boys growing up together, the challenges, the friendships, and what hap.

The books are fantastic at helping children to think about different feelings they or friends may be experiencing and are great discussion points. After witnessing this Tilda takes the ladybirds efforts on board and decides to persevere herself and to not give up. Soon books are being read, toys are being played with and her friends…well soon Tilda's world is once again full of laughter and fun…all because Tilda learnt a valuable lesson; if at first you don't succeed, try again. Tom Percival's Big Bright Feelings series is the perfect springboard for conversations about mental and emotional health, positive self-image, building self-confidence and managing feelings.
