Brand new to this model is the pizza and steak cooking plate, a multipurpose metal rack, kebab wheel with ten skewers and two heatproof silicone mitts. It doesn’t make it unusable, but if aesthetics are less important to you, the T17038 manual model is worth considering. Up to 75% more space than a standard air fryer, so you can cook more of your favourite foods all in one place. While each of these are nice extras to have, they wouldn’t be standout enough features for us to use them very regularly.

Having said that, this problem is unlikely to occur with thicker-textured foods, such as meat; most of the veg stayed on the skewers until the end. Most importantly, however, it produces top-notch air-fried meals, including wonderfully crisp chips, rotisserie meats and fish using little to no oil. Overall, we were impressed with how straightforward this was to use and how good the results were for the whole chicken (one day we’ll stop going on about that, but until then consider us homemade rotisserie evangelists). There's a button on the top the display to turn on the internal light and take a look, which means you won't have to open the door to take a peek.

While this wasn’t the fastest result, I did go for the maximum amount of chips suggested by the manual and initially skimped on the oil.

We also liked that you could use multiple levels to cook a few different things – like fish fingers on one level and chips on the other – something which few other models offer and is great for larger households and families. A lot of the extra oil already on the chips ran down to the drip tray – leaving me with a healthier meal. I do think it's a shame it can only fit smaller cuts of meat, but it will do well for a family of four. The first batch produced chips with a dry, overcooked exterior, while the second batch had a crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior. I started by cooking 800g of homemade chips, having parboiled them for 7 minutes for a fluffier texture.It might be easy to clean, but the prep work required to make homemade chips cancels this out somewhat. The touch buttons produce a beeping sound when pressed, which can become annoying when you’re having to select a much longer cooking time (the default is 15 minutes).
