About this deal

The Wireless Train have 40mm drivers with a frequency response range of 16-20,000Hz, and they prove to be exactly as capable as those specifications might suggest.

Not every feature sticks the landing, such as the bizarrely underwhelming Project Rock equalizer, but with plenty of ANC and Ambient mode settings, not to mention monster battery life that’s perfect for all-day workouts, the Project Rock headphones are a fantastic piece of kit. After sliding off the initial cover, you’re met with a rectangular carrying case sporting the familiar Under Armour logo across the front. These are made in collaboration between Under Armour and JBL, and they supposedly boast a custom sound experience tuned by Johnson. JBL continues its Under Armour collaboration with the new Sport Wireless Train on-ear gym-focused Bluetooth headphones. You could probably leave your phone in the locker room and hit the weights without a hitch—depending on how large the gym is, of course.

Audio tinkerers may find that the JBL Headphones app opens up a lot of custom EQ options to play with. In the effort to make the ear cushions comfortable, UA hasn’t forgotten about hygiene, either; these cushions can be removed and hand-washed. You don’t get silence, but JBL has done a good job of quieting the environment across the audio spectrum.

Essentially, pressing the Under Armour logo on the right earcup will drop down your music volume and pipe in surrounding sounds, allowing you to have quick conversations without removing the headphones when you need to.

It's a subscription-based app to help track your workout routine and feed fitness tips straight into your ear, though you'll get a free 12-month subscription when purchasing your headphones. The drums on this track are delivered with some serious thunder—it's not overwhelming, because the entire frequency range is quite sculpted, but the lows here are strong and lend some extra body and roundness to the drums. This feature alone transforms the Under Armour Project Rock into a fairly flexible and useable headset. Those of us with smaller skulls than The Rock might also find the headband a little loose, but upright listeners needn’t worry.Dwayne Johnson clearly knows his way around the gym, knowledge that’s key to designing a pair of headphones for fitness-minded folk. In addition to a USB-A-to-USB-C cable and a headphone aux cable, the package includes a sturdy travel case. We’ve made a big improvement to how we demonstrate the microphone performance of products we review. Project Rock’s build is a sturdy, almost rubber-feeling plastic affair with hints of an internal metal framework. The Project Rock headphones don't, though, and you're stuck with this enhanced bass sound, which may be a blessing or curse.

But through the lens of 2020, it’s a far cry from acceptable when comparable models offer more than double the battery life.I found this to be the case for other go-to gym anthems such as Kickstart My Heart by Mötley Crüe, with the guitar and drums just about outweighing the vocals throughout the song. In the spirit of good, real-world testing, I broke out my dumbbells and put on the Project Rock headphones. Connection stability is reliable and better than the first-generation, largely due to the new Bluetooth 5.
