Generally it's a great little box for the money and certainly works well when jamming with other volcas! Modulation on the Volca Keys comes from two sources, the envelope generator and the low frequency oscillator (LFO). The Motion Sequence function lets you record knob movements, letting you apply time-varying changes to your sound that will enhance your loops and add originality to your live performances. Capturing the fat, warm sounds only an analog synth could produce, this packs authentic Korg tone in a package that won't eat up your desk space or wallet. This means that if you simultaneously play live on a keyboard and record your automations on the Volca itself, the notes you played get recorded on every loop, over and over again.

I currently own quite a few Synthesizers from several manufacturers, Behringer, Roland, ASM, Elektron, Modal, Teenage Engineering and Korg, to name a few. The tempo dials flash in time with the internal/MIDI-clocked tempo and each key/sequence step has its own LED too, convenient for letting you know what's happening at a glance within complex sequences. With a simple structure that includes delay effect and a sequencer, it's also an ideal choice as a first analog synth. While in unison modes, the Detune control detunes the notes from the unison pitch up to a semitone, making the sound feel thicker. Volca Keys is a long-awaited synthesizer that adds a new chapter to the long and storied history of Korg's analog synthesizers.Also provided is an active step function which lets you play back while skipping the steps you specify. Oscillator Pitch uses footage nomenclature used in organ terminology, also favoured by Moog amongst others, and is switchable between 32′, 16′, 8′, 4′, 2′ and 1′. The volca modular is a semi-modular synthesizer consisting of independent analog synth modules, digital effects, and a sequencer.

You can skip the latter half to produce a short loop, use an alternate time signature to create polyrhythms, and evolve sequence patterns in real time to create a dynamic performance. However, as there is no keyboard tracking of the filter cut-off, the pitch of the self-oscillation is static and cannot be played.Factor in the fat-sounding filter, delay effect, and a built-in arpeggiator, and you're well on your way to analog synth bliss. It houses a 16-step sequencer with motion sequencing, Korg's proprietary version of parameter automation. Following in the footsteps of the Monotron, Monotribe, and MS-20 Mini analogue synthesizers, Korg announces the Volca series.
