About this deal

Beck about the whereabouts of her friend, Cameron, and some of the patients, he’s just as baffled too. The build-up suspense is great, and the tense atmosphere jolts the reader and makes him doubt what's going in and who can be trusted. Additionally, the overuse of the word “crazy” and the suggestion that all mentally ill individuals are inherently violent further reinforces these stereotypes.

I had to tell myself several times that the MC, Amy, couldn’t be a medical student if she was still in high school. However, as someone with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, and having had worked with people who had severe mental illnesses much like the people in the hospital in this book, I was astounded at how poor the mental health representation was. I’ve been a huge fan of hers ever since I read “The Housemaid” as her style of writing, great storytelling, insane plot twists, and how she fleshes out characters are all top-notch.Amy Brenner is a medical student who is about to do her rotation on the psychiatric ward, She has her reasons for not wanting to go there, least of which she has to pull an overnight shift. They are more likely to express the desire to take a woman wearing red out on a date, and are also willing to spend more money on the date. as the hours tick by, amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. It felt like such a negative representation of mental illnesses from how Amy described them, she did not sound professional at all.

I thought Millie from The Housemaid was a certified dumb-dumb, but Amy said hold my peach iced tea (IYKYK). I initially wanted to hire a maid in hopes that she would become my replacement—that if Andrew fell in love with another woman, he would finally let me go. Don’t worry, I won’t ruin anything for you but this is an addictive story with a lot of tension, suspense, and some good twists that were decent for the most part.

But n0, so he is wheeled into a bubble room where another gurney waits with restraints for the psychosis patient. The overall story is fantastic and as usual with McFadden, it’s always a thriller that keeps you on your toes until a crazy plot twist or insane reveal happens. And to make matters even worse, one of the patients there was someone that Amy knew very personally. As readers delve into the locked ward alongside Amy Brenner, they will find themselves captivated by the suspense, engrossed in the intricate narrative, and left pondering the lasting impact of the story long after the final page is turned.

The psychiatric care, how the unit functioned, medical ethics, mental illness, and even Amy’s skills are all represented so poorly in this story. I’ve never seen solitary rooms in a regular hospital setting, although they may have them in units for people designated as “criminally insane. As for the psychiatric diagnoses, she sounded like she read straight from the DSM rather than actually knowing the information. Like all Frieda McFadden books Ward D was full if twists and turns - some predictable and others not. There is talk of danger by patients and as Amy tries to make sense of everything, the evening becomes a nightmare. Liars offer too much information, babbling on with excessive detail to convince themselves or others of what they are saying. Oh and it wouldn't be a Freida book without unrelentingly repetitiveness and her cheap magician trick of shoving something down your throat in a not-so-subtle-way as a distraction from the grand finale.
