About this deal

You may choose to discuss the questions posed in the video now if they weren't discussed during the video. The philosophical question explored in the story was posed by the British philosopher Thomas Hobbes .

This film uses a combination of an animated parable with live action discussions with children and is adapted from Peter Worley’s 'The If Machine'. Use this great resource alongside the Twinkl Originals book ' We Are All Different' or as part of your 'All About Me' topic.

This particular page makes me appreciate the artistry and imagination that children’s book illustrators have. The character and colourful text makes it an eye-catching choice, causing Noah to comment on the sparkly letters on the cover. These vary from scene to scene and fill the pages with bright detail: the comparison with a computer contains a mass of line drawings, whilst that with a volcano has a glowing tower of lava bursting up the page.

Take a look at the full range of additional resources to support this book, such as these We Are All Different Discussion Cards.Since completing my last book review for Tes, I have moved schools and begun a new autumn term with nearly 60 early years foundation stage (EYFS) children. I particularly liked the two pages at the front and back of the book; the first showing a variety of characters in muted colours, the last showing the same characters but with colour and added details giving them personality. You could choose to pause the video at these times for a short discussion, or alternatively, watch the video through once and then stop at the questions the second time through, or pose the questions after the first viewing. One page that shows similarities and differences with a computer is full of interesting, smaller illustrations, which the children enjoyed looking at carefully. The ship needs numerous repairs at George’s Shipyard where George replaces the old wooden pieces with metal ones, until by the end of the voyage the 'Theseus' is entirely made of metal.

Preston said “I like scratching like a dinosaur”, encouraging Joe to be more specific and realise: “I can be like a T-Rex and stretch up tall.If the latter, read out the answers one by one or put the finished pages up on display so that all the kids can read each others worksheets and find out what makes their classmates tick! I primarily utilize Charlotte Mason's philosophies and I am excited to see some resources for some of our favorite books, which is why I joined. The illustrations throughout the book are colourful and engaging and, with further time to look carefully, children noticed some things that made them laugh: a dog caught short near a tree, the boy eating dog food and, on the final page, the dog thinking about what makes him him. The children had great fun with me and a pretend remote control, making choices for when they could start and stop me.
