Between the Obsidian and now the Gems, I’m sold on what IKKO brings to the table. They’re producing high-quality and unique IEMs that don’t deserve to get lost in the ocean of bland alternatives. The OH1S Gems should be on the radar of anyone looking for IEMs in this price range. There are a few outstanding performers within the first couple of price tiers and very many average ones. Like A WHOLE LOT of them, with new mediocre options appearing weekly in an unending flow. Frankly, it’s hard to get too excited anymore about cheap but flawed models, although some folks seem to have inexhaustible enthusiasm for them.

Mids: Midrange presents itself smooth but still detailed, vocals are a little forward and sound natural, with a fair amount of emotion and richness to them. The Mids defiantly are quite good, and they are not sibilant or get shouty in anyway, so they are pleasant no matter the volume level used. With its small form factor and light cable, IKKO Gems OH1S is extremely comfortable to wear. Even in long periods, there was no pressure inside the ear and no discomfort was found around the outside of the ear. While the Obsidian and the Gems share the same hammered exterior surface, the rest of the design couldn’t differ more from each other. The Gems are about half the size, and less than half the weight of the Obsidian. Gone is the all-metal construction, and in its place, the Gems are fabricated of resin and lightweight aluminum. The Gems are very distinctively shaped and sized.

Synergy

Sure, the cable may require some untangling when removing it from a case, but after a few moments, that’s sorted, and you can forget that it’s there (as it should be). From 2005, IKKO began a furisode brand. She also owns the shops Pink by IKKO and PEACH DOLL. She began studying calligraphy under Kanashiki Shimbo from the age of 50. She has served as the honorary public relations ambassador for Korea tourism and has been the campaign character for Korean cosmetics brand Etude House. She made her debut as a singer in 2007. After the Tohoku Earthquake, she began doing volunteer activities. Isolation of the Gems OH1S is average compared to other universal IEMs. Playing music at comfortable levels drowns out the low hums of the air conditioner that are otherwise heard through the IEMs. Tips Music transitions smoothly into the midrange, with no unnatural bumps or dips. Vocals and instruments take a more dominant position in the mix as they aren’t being upstaged by a boosted bass section. Things sound smooth, clear, and well defined, with a moderately intimate presentation.

An octa-core chip XMOS XU208 is also inside, which promises strong decoding power and low power consumption. A high-performance Bluetooth Qualcomm QC5125 chip is also inside with BT 5.0, enabling support for AAC/SBC/aptX LL/aptX HD/LDAC and mainstream Bluetooth formats that support a 192kHz decoding rate.The bass response is far bigger in the OH10, and the entire sound seems shifted down in register. The Tea are brighter and more forward sounding, with a more prominent midrange, while the OH10 have a far less in-your-face, smoother, and deeper sound profile. The quality of both lower spectrums is acceptable for the price, although the driver may fall behind in situations where the bass is executed consecutively.

Sound Impressions

Lift off the foam and you’ll discover an envelope containing the manual and a customer service card. The good news is that all that low-end is (mostly) only overtly present when called for and remains under control. The sub-bass is mildly boosted and slowly falls off as frequencies increase into the midrange. Depending on your source amplification, song choice, and listening volume, the bass can tend towards being a bit excessive, but at reasonable listening levels and with a high-quality source, it is never a concern. What’s better is certainly a matter of taste, and they both sound very good, if very different. The Tea command your attention, while the OH10 suit a more easy-listening groove. Their low-end is somewhat intoxicating. Nope, they aren’t for bass-heads. Those folks need to move on and go buy the Obsidian. But for anyone looking for a more neutral and analytical sound signature, the Gems will provide all that they could want.
